I used Sauja's pattern for the Obi (as pictured). I don't tie mine, I pin it at both ends. I start the wrap in front, wrap around and back to front, then pin the ends.

I was in costume last night...and with the questions raised I took a look at each piece of the tabbards and sash as I put them on....
Done right...you can't see velcro in the places I used it...
....and when I tied the sash.....I wrapped the loose ends a couple of times and it stayed in place hidden under the belt all night...

I use velcro to hold the obi together, but it's hardly noticible because it's mostly hidden by the belt over it. Really large snaps (costumers refer to them as whopper poppers!) will work as well, and show very little, as will large hooks & eyes. As long as it's neatly done, the type of closure is really a matter of personal preference and convieniece or what type of notion is available locally.

thanks guys;
i think i will try the tie obi. its bad enough that i have to put on the belt backwards ala Jahzmynn, but to do the obi that was seems to be too much. thanks for the pic showing the back of anakins tunic. really good pic of the belt keeper that covers the velcro, snaps, buckles, whatever. i have velco in the back of my obi to hold my tabbards ala obi-wan. it looked too funny when i let them hang out ala qui-gon. i use velcro on the shoulders too. otherwise the tabbards will fall down. i also have two sets of tunics, pants and tabbards. one in tan and one in brown. this allows me to interchange them. i am also have a pair of pleather brown tabbards made as well. thanks everyone for all the help.

No prob Zhi. You'er welcome. if ya' can, post pictures.:-)
Biggest problem with putting the belt on backwards it getting the bugger turned back around. last time some one saw me struggling with it they reached around me to snap it.
Nova, I LOVE the term Whooper Poppers. hehehe I have a bunch of those.

lol! I just grab someone to help, heh. As Jauhz has said time and again...its why padawans have a master and vice versa.

hehehe.
Yeah Schph, I KNOW that feeling. :-)
I'll be donning them this Saterday for a joint events with 501st and Rebel legion. We'll be helping the Redcross pull vict... err volunteers in to donate blood.:-D . One year it was an Olympic event to get an arm out of the under tunic to give blood. I had made the wrist hole too narrow to shove up past the elbow.LOL I had to cut the stiching with the aid of the Nurse's pocket knife. She needed to see BOTH arms. That day I found out just how flexible my shoulder were.

well i have a new obi.....master smudges SO made me a new one. it still has a velcro closure and i still try to hide as much of it as i can under my big pouch. yer right too, it does help to have a padawan, but anyone will do. someday i will find a way to do this by myself with no trouble. i will probably end up attaching my tabbards to my obi in back and sewing them together in front to keep them aligned. now that ive seen how anakins are done i understand how they can come down at an angle and still be straight after they leave the obi. answer they are sewed in another direction where you cant see them. heh heh...

I attached the tabbards to my obi on both of my last two tunics (in back and in front) and it works really well. It keeps you from worrying about them getting out of alignment or coming loose.

I'll want to know how Nova did that when you ahve your tunics Schph. I safty pin myh tabbords from the underside to the tunic's shoulders.

Different methods work equally well, I sometimes stitch them in place, or velcro, or snaps, or sometimes it's the shape, in my tabbard pattern, there is a little curve at the shoulder, which seems to help the problem, I don't usually have a problem with to much tabbard movement, once they're on, & the obi & belt are on too. Where the Anakin pattern has a seam at the top of the shoulder, is where mine curve, they cross each other in front, but I think it looks OK for me, I might try a pair of the seamed ones. Sometimes the fabric clings more to itself than another type of fabric, between texture & static and that might have an effect as well. As for the film, you can see stiches that hold them in place if you look really carefully.

Hey Schph, "Set it & Forget it" sounds like you've been watching to many Ron Popeil infomercials ;D but that's good, I like it.
