I have a rare, unopened action figure of Palpatine. The newere figure. I know it might not be worth as much now as it will later. But I know that it is rare for its type. But it will just uselessly sit there for awhile. I am looking for advice on what to do with this figure.

Make sure you don't mess up the packaging or open it and keep it until it is worth more! I would keep checking the prices and when the price starts to level off, sell it.

That depends. It could appreciate in value over time, but it may stay the same. I would not expect it to lose value, unless the company that made it makes more, or it rare enough that one person discovering that they have one would make a difference. When did you buy it, and how much did you pay for it?

It may be worth something...but not for about 20 years or so....I have watched the value of 3 3/4" figures go all over the boards....right now...they really aren't holding much value. As always...they are worth more if they are packaged and the package is undamaged...but don't look to make much on it for MANY years....
I have seen some stuff from the early 90's going for less than was probably paid for the item....some of the original action figures from the late 70's can go for quite a bit of money...because back then....people seemed less likely to keep their stuff in the packaging...there weren't as many "collectors".

The likelihood of new toys being worth what the vintage line is worth now is not good. The vintage line has been able to appreciate for a number of reasons. The main one?
Scarcity. Most of the vintage line was opened by kids. There were very few collectors as we know them now, compared to kids in the period from 1977 to 1985. As a result, there are fewer carded samples to pick from, and those are the items that really have held their value.
In comparison, there are far more carded collectors in the year 2003. Plus, the production runs on modern action figures are higher than twenty years ago. Meaning, there is much more supply to meet the demand.
The reality is, that the modern line isn't and probably will never be worth what the vintage line is worth. So, by all mean, feel free to open up your Palpatine . It certainly is not rare. I've seen plenty of them around toy stores in the NYC area. It'll be worth more to you in terms of the enjoyment factor than it will be worth in monetary terms.
