I figured that was Cheryl! She needs a bike now. Has anyone ever made one using a motorcycle? no...but they did make a couple fake ones for a parade float that looked pretty darned good..

This mission report is very difficult to write. On Sunday 3 of our TJA members (Whinter Fenlynn, Crix Helcyon, myself ) and my R2 Unit did an event that was requested of us (the Midwest Garrison) by Make A Wish. Vincent is a little boy with cancer who was going to be sent to Disney this summer to have his wish granted to meet Yoda and Chewbacca and to battle Darth Vader. Vincent has taken a turn for the worst so the Midwest Garrison was contacted to fulfill his wish at his home near Chicago. TJA member Whinter Fenlynn is also XO of the MWG and took on the event co-ordinator tasks for this very important mission. Locally, we have no Yoda character...I don't know that anyone does so Tom Kane from the Clone Wars series was contacted about doing a recording. Not only did Mr. Kane make a specific recording just for Vincent and his family, he also sent along his very own Mace Windu lightsaber and many other things from his personal collection. MAW sent along a man to dress as Yoda who did the best he could....coming into the room on his knees to appear shorter. We had Chewbacca (Bob Kohn) come down from WI. I also sewed Vincent a robe and donated a Medal of Yavin. We set up Tom Kane's message to play through the speaker system in my R2, gave Vincent Tom Kane's lightsaber and my robe...and all of the other items... This is a photo of Cheryl and I setting up the recording in R2...you can see the strain of this event on our faces... Then Yoda came in....Darth Vader came in... all of us Jedi lit up our sabers but Cheryl announced that Vincent could handle Vader... Vader was struck down by Vincent from his position on the couch with his parents. Cheryl asked Vincent if he would show Vader mercy...Vincent said no...Cheryl and I escorted Vader out of the room. Vincent was very tired and wanted to go back to bed. This was a very difficult troop for us... I know now what tabards on a Jedi costume are for... they are for wiping tears and blowing your nose... Not that anyone would... but please do not repost this information at any other forum... a group photo

It just gives me chills. If anyone wonders why we are such weirdos to dress up like this, they need to see this account of selfless giving.
The Yoda looks pretty good. Tom Kane was wonderful to send the recording and the collectibles. What a good idea and a good job to have it play from R2... very authentic.

This kind of troop can be a heavy burden for us, but we are blessed to be able to bring great joy to those whose life is filled with suffering. Well done, Schph and Whinter.

I think the link below should bring you to a photobucket account where you can hear the actual message to Vincent recorded by Tom Kane..

I cried when I read what you had done for this little boy, cried again when I heard the message recorded for him, and cried yet again when I read what happened. What a brave youngster! Now he's in a place where he can run and play and isn't hurting any more. Prayers going out for his parents and family.

I'm just... speechless.
Wow.
But I can say thank you Schph and Whinter and the others for serving this special family at a very difficult time. This will be a very precious memory for them.
Prayers for the family and for all touched by Vincent's life.... including all of you.

DK Books in conjunction with Barnes & Noble bookstores all over the country launched a new and very beautiful book called "Star Wars Year By Year". As with previous DK releases, the 501st was contacted to provide support at over 30 Barnes and Noble stores for a little "launch party". With most of the available Midwest Garrison members on duty at Wizard World, The Wisconsin Garrison was generous and sent two of their members, Stephanie Bidrick and Geoff Pfeiffer down to IL to cover the Oak Brook event with me and Artoo. We were thrilled to have Thomas "Crix" Turner and his son Luke join us. For the nationwide participation of 501st, Rebel Legion, TJA, and R2 Builders groups, DK will be making a donation to Make-A-Wish. I have to tell you, I have done a LOT of events in a LOT of different venues and the store employees at the Barnes & Noble in Oakbrook were some of the finest people I have ever had the privelige of working with. The store had plenty for the kids to do with making masks, coloring, and several contests. I brought along some temporary tatoos, my new RFT Trading cards, and a spare RFT helmet and blaster for the kids to use while taking photos. PARTICIPANTS:TK/TB/TS 4813 Geoff Pfeiffer - event coordinator TX/TS 4814 - Stephanie Budrick - Rebel Legion-Nar Shaddaa Base IC 4913 - Thomas "Crix" Turner - Rebel Legion-Nar Shaddaa Base-The Jedi Assembly TK/ID 1951 - Phyllis Schulte - Rebel Legion-Nar Shaddaa Base- The Jedi Assembly - R2 Builders Club Artoo Gochi - droid Some great moments: I have to say, that I will spend the next 24 hours removing finger prints from my R2 unit... the kids just could not get enough of Artoo! more photos: s201.photobucket.com/albums/aa304/schphgochi/DK-%20Barnes%20and%20Noble-%20Oakbrook%208-21-10/

Very nice, Schph!
Oh dear. I should download my camera for CV, shouldn't I? YES...Would love to see them.. and as if Saturday wasn't enough.. Me and R2 were on a LFL mission on Sunday also.. My R2 has a larger fingerprint collection than the FBI... This is my mission report as posted at the main 501st boards for Sunday's event: Last month an important transmission was received from Lucasfilm via Mary Franklin. The Chigago Legoland Discover Ceter in Schaumburg was holding its first ever "Star Wars Weekend". The 501st was contacted and asked to provide support and judges for the planned costume contests to be held. Where we could not provide support on Saturday, we were able to come in force on Sunday. I took on the job of event coordinator. Thanks go out to River, and Jason, Carolyn, and Alyssa Patterson who assisted both me and the employees of Legoland conduct two costume contests. To say that a good time was had by all is probably an understatement... and never let it be said that Darth Vader does not have a sense of whimsy as Jason Patterson (along with Jeff Baron on the Legoland Ewok ride) provided the spectators PLENTY of whimsical moments. Even the Dark Lord of the Sith had to wait his turn... Then there was this rather amusing moment.... While patrolling the halls...I heard screams of terror and wondered what it was... turns out that Drew Dziura in his Jawa costume had left quite the impression on a few of the kids. Drew decided to suit down early rather than spread trauma throughout the center. Crix and Luke decided that the President needed some Jedi security... And there were plenty of photo ops... Artoo Gochi tried to strike up a conversation with the other R2...but really didn't get anywhere... Big thanks go out to all our participants..please let me know if I have forgotten anyone. PARTICIPANTS:Jason Patterson - SL 1719 - Darth Vader Alyssa Patterson - Tie Pilot Ryan Patterson - Imperial Crew Carolyn Patterson – Shaak Ti Joe Rivera - CC 3166 - Captain Rex - RL - Bob Dziura - TK1656 - Stormtrooper Drew Dziura - Jawa Neil Auer - TK 3446 - Stormtrooper Gehrig Auer - Jawa Thomas "Crix" Turner IC 4913- Jedi - RL- TJA - Luke Turner - Jedi Matt McDonald - TK 8148 - Stormtrooper Jessica Hudak - Padme Lake Dress – Jeff Baron – TI 9131 Phyllis "Schph Gochi" Schulte- TK 1951- X-Wing Pilot - RL- TJA-R2 Builders Artoo Gochi - R2 D2 MORE PHOTOS:s201.photobucket.com/albums/aa304/schphgochi/Legoland%20Discovery%20Center%208-22-10/
