Greetings!
As the PR Officer of The Dark Empire, a Lucasfilm-recognized fan group of dark
side costumers, I would like to cordially invite members of your group to “join us”
in a charitable multi-fan group Star Wars event we are planning in August, at an
orphanage in Pasadena, California.
The website for the facility is www.hillsides.org
I met with the staff at Hillsides today, and they are very eager to have Star Wars
characters come and visit them for about two hours of photo-taking opportunities
and smile-making on Saturday, August 6th, 2011. The event will start at 11am.
In fact, during the week before that event, the kids in residence there will be
having a “Star Wars movie night” each night of the week leading up to the event,
which will culminate in our visit to the facility. This idea was shared between the
director, her assistant, and I.
I've informed the center director, that anywhere from ten to thirty or more
costumed characters will be appearing, and I have requested a place for us to park
our vehicles and change into costume. That does not appear to be a problem at all.
Their campus is very large, and sits on seventeen acres of land. Of course, we
won't be trooping seventeen acres; we'll more than likely be in a central location
on the property. I'll be in contact with them, of course, should we have any further
needs or questions.
This letter is going out to not only The Dark Empire, but also the 501st Legion, the
Rebel Legion, Mandalorian Mercs, Fanforce, and the R2 Builders. However, ALL
Star Wars costumers with quality costumes are invited to this event, which I am
hoping will be big not only in terms of success (making kids happy), but also that
a large number of costumers, ten to thirty or more, will participate.
The purpose of this event is twofold. One, most importantly, is to visit children
that have a real need to smile. Having been given a tour of Hillsides, I can tell you
that it is a VERY professional and well-maintained facility. The children there
have been in five homes prior to being in residence at Hillsides; and they all range
in ages from eight to eighteen years of age. They therefore have been through the
system quite a bit, and from that alone, I am motivated to help bring some smiles
to their faces this August, if only for a couple of hours. Secondly, as it is the stated
purpose of The Dark Empire to assist and join the other fan groups in causes such as
this, that this trooping event will demonstrate unity among our different
organizations. Despite the different costumes and other qualities that make our
separate groups each unique in their own separate ways, we really are all the same
when it comes to charitable work such as this, and I can think of no better way to
show it.
I love and respect each and everyone of you for all that you / we do. Together, we
can and do make differences in the lives of children through the happy memories
that we bring them. This event will be one of those memories, memories that are
desperately needed.
Hope to see you there!
All the best,
Joe "Lord Bruticus" Mignano - TDE-021
