Greetings everyone!
Jedi Mat-Japra
(Matthew Pratt)
I'm originally from St. Louis, moved to southeastern Mississippi in September of 2005.
Always been a big Star Wars fan from 1977 on, problem was to me back then the coolest thing was Darth Vader. Obi-Won being an old Jedi didn't really catch my youthful interest, and then Luke always came across as a whiner. (No offense to Luke fans, just how my brain worked at the time) The original trilogy was awesome, but when Episode I came out, I saw what the Jedi were like "back in the day", I was hooked all over again. (Forget Vader)
By this time I was married with one child and although I loved Star Wars, it wasn't the big topic with "my friends". As time went on and Episode II and then III came out, I could feel The Force growing inside me. To this day it is very difficult to watch the end of Episode III, and see the end The Republic and the move towards the dark side.
I now have two children the first one now almost 15 and the second turning 9 soon, both girls. The younger is very into Star Wars (we watch The Clone Wars together every week). It is thru her current interest that I have all new feelings for all six movies. I do see a lot of myself in her, I also see the other kids starting to give her flak over "Liking Star Wars". I can now give her the courage to stand up for how she feels, and try not to let what they say bother her.
As stated in another post, I have been gathering information on the different parts of a Jedi outfit now for about 3 weeks. I'm sure I will have tons of questions once I get started. I've visited a lot of the tutorials, made copies, gathered pictures online of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan (I want the costume to fall somewhere in the middle) there are aspects of both that I like. The goal is for next Halloween to have my Jedi outfit done, and my daughter wants to be Ahsoka from The Clone Wars.
I am open to any advice anyone is willing to give. I have a good friend doing the actual sewing and such as my sewing skills are non-existent.
I am very glad to see all the female Jedi here; I will be pointing this out to my daughter real soon. (Girls like Star Wars too!)
Anyway....that's me in a nutshell.
May The Force be with you.
