Hello all, I'm new here. I'm looking into making my own lightsaber, alas I'm not ver good with technical things and I have no one in my family to help me (My dad is essentially "Tim the Tool Man Taylor"). I've read through Jedi Loreen's tutorial, but I don't really understand it. Are their any other easier tutorials to follow? Any advice it greatly appreciated. The sooner I have my blade, the sooner I can join.

Ah, but as Jedi we do not live by blade alone... I may suggest that you start with something simple like the hilt alone. Lightsabers from the Big Yellow Box is a good one (or any others from our links), you can construct the lightsaber with a sink pipe like I did for my first one (Padawans always build their own the first time, right?), and as you go along you can learn more about methods of construction (there is SOOO much to learn). But with a proper lightsaber, even no blade, you can get accepted.

I was looking at the handlebars of my dad's motorcycle and those would be great if I could find a wrecked one.

The plumbing department at Home Depot has the best potential for lightsaber parts for me. Definitely check out the Big Yellow Box page. Not all parts are available now, but it's a great place to see what you can do.

I'll do that. There is a Home Depot right down the street from me.

I made my saber out of parts from lowes between the gardening department and the plumbing department. I also had scrap leather from when I made my pouches for my belt. I have no idea as of now how to cut PVC or make holes in the metal pipes...but if you search around these forums there are two tutorials that give you an idea of how to start and how to make one without having to cut anything!

a standard rotary tool will work nicely for both PVC and Sink Tubes. They're not too expensive, pack away easily, and easy to use.
regular pipe cutter will work on both as well (for length).
Big Yellow Box is a great way to start. Reading through the instructions for the sabers there will give you enough info to design your own....

The Custom Saber Shop is the place to really design and build your hilt if you want something very nice and totally custom. Are you looking for a static hilt, or looking to have light and sound installed? Here is a tutorial on making your own blade: www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=14080.0And there is a lot of threads/wiring schematics at the custom saber shop's forums. I didn't see Lori's tut, but it may be similar. Good luck!
