Master Cor-Al recently asked the Council members to update our introduction threads but my original join thread from 2006 has been eaten by the cyberspace slug from the asteroid field...
I have to admit I've been procrastinating a bit on this b/c I don't know exactly how to introduce myself to people who sort of know me... ummm, here goes...
I'm Karyn from Atlanta and I originally stumbled on TJA after seeing ROTS umpteen times and deciding I wanted a Jedi robe. I didn't really have a reason to have one... but I WANTED one. I finally decided that maybe I could use the excuse of a Halloween costume. And I looked on the web for a place to buy one (found the Rubies deluxe) and then thought, "even with my limited sewing skills, I could make one that looks better than that..." and that's how I finally found TJA.
The robe? I still have it and troop with it... truthfully, I feel half-dressed in my Jedi costume without the robe! (It did come off that HOT day at D*C last year.... I know I'm a Southern girl, but even I have my limits. )
I finally got up the nerve to join the message board in 2006 to ask a question about lightsabers ... and here is my very first post: apfoister.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=lsa&action=display&thread=3366&page=1
I have told many people over the past couple of years that if not for TJA I would still be in "civilian clothes" ... the members were very patient with me as I asked a bazillion questions as I crafted my first costume over about a year and a half. Even though I am active in my RL base, I always refer people here for the most comprehensive source for Prequel Jedi costumes. (Jedi Nimsil has recently passed the Trials, and I've enjoyed getting to know him and his wife.)
So I was very surprised and delighted when I was asked to join the Council earlier this year. I have been helping with a bit of secretarial work over the past year or so, and I think it was just more efficient to have me log into the Command Forums... LOL
So I am no expert on Jedi costumes, but I have learned so much and am happy to share my trials and errors (LOTS of errors) to help the next Jedi pass the Trials.
Hmmm.... other personal stuff.... my husband Jerry and I recently celebrated our 27th anniversary. No kids... 3 cats (all spoiled of course). Jerry made a mid-life career change after 20 years in a family business and is going to grad school for his teaching certificate. He teaches elementary school and loves it... he is very gifted teacher and works in a school with a lot of disadvantaged children. I like to think he's helping these kids get a better start in life.
I work in the financial office of a Christian ministry in the Atlanta area, so sometimes I work A LOT and am offline for some long stretches during "accounting season". We are just finishing our annual audit so I'm looking forward to summer trooping and cons... the Science and Imagination exhibit opening in Huntsville and PLANNING on C-V although some of that is still being worked out.
That's all I can think of right now... I hate saying "I" so much... but it is introduction thread...
