It says it can't be "mandatory" but maybe it'll be optional. I certainly planned on doing it...

The problem is that the 10 year census is mandatory---it's actually in Article 1 of the constitution so they can figure out how to apportion Congress---so asking about religion would not be part of it. But I guess the Census Bureau can ask for voluntary information for other things, just not the 2010 census.

Most of us will get a "short form" which will not include a designation for religion. Only a small percentage (10% or under) will get the long form which will ask for religion (but not demand it).
But if I do get a long form, you can guess what I'll be putting down!

I finally found the proposed questions for the 2010 US census - shrot and long forms. It's a PDF file on the government census website. No joy.
There are no questions about religion in it at all.
I went back and looked at the very old US census forms I collected for my family genealogy and they never ask about religion. So, we won't be able to put down 'Jedi' for religion for the US Census. Ah well.

There's always the "Occupation" question!

Jedi is more of a occupation not a religion. <shrugs>
