OK, I do KNOW that we haven't seen any women in the new series wearing any kind of armor....yet. And there may not be any. But I've seen some of our women costumers in armor, here and at RL, and it looks cool. So I'm working on a concept.... I can't see myself portraying a general, and I carry a green blade not a blue one, so I'm more of the consular type who spends wayyyy too much time in the Archives. But I could see myself as support personnel who does need some protection when going out to the field... unlike talented teenaged Padawans who run around with a bare midriff! So I'm thinking about this and I'm looking for suggestions. I went to the movie by myself Thursday night and really studied the costumes and how they were put together, especially the shoulder pieces. I'm thinking about a tunic more like Obi-Wan's, the shoulder pieces more like Anakin's, and maybe some bracers like Ahsoka's (leather?) with the exposed fingers. (No bare arms, though.... I want sleeves.) This armor-thing may be out of my league, but hey, I never thought I could do a decent Jedi costume and look what happened. Now I'm running around with a bunch of characters... pun intended. Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Wait a few weeks and see what else we see in the series? Thanks.

That's why loosely based mine on plo koon's The chest piece would make me feel a little clauster phobic. That's why I really don't wear my Vader any more either. It looks impressive enough on my shelf. With my Vader helmet and mask.I wanted something that looked very jedi, but not so much hard line as the Kenobi in clone armor.1-My budget wouldn't allow it.2-the heat and comfort issue.Yeah some of the costume LOOK very cool, but you have to feel cool, and comfortable in them.I think I'll make some diffrent tabbards for mine.I found some dark brown crushed leather suede that would look killer. The hardest thing I found was finding sombody to get a hold of the armor.I'm still tinkering around on it to make move a bit better.Do the costume to fit your character and personality.Feel, don't think use your instincts. If you want some ideas I could probably design you something.Or you can take the characters in armor you like best try to incorprate into something your own.

J'aii, you were one of the ones I was thinking of. That's all good advice... thanks. Yeah, budget is an issue for me too, so I'll likely have to do most of this myself, as I did my other costumes. I've got a couple of scribbled sketches, along with some of my librarian/historian idea which also needs development. It's like being back in high school, when I was always scribbling medieval and Civil-War-era costumes in the margins of my class notes. I guess I'm just a frustrated costume designer... have been for years. BTW, did you make any of your own armor pieces or buy them all from someone else? I should probably also talk to some of my local 501st guys.

I have a friend in my SW collectors' club who helped me out in that dept. There's a guy on clone costuming group(like the 501st) but for just clones. The price tag for just the arms is like 145-155.00 price range. You'll have to do the sizing, shiming yourself.I'm lucky.I got 2 SW costumers.3 miles down the road. One of them just recently joined up.If you decided to get some.I can help you.Storm trooper armor is a bit different than the clones armor.Unless there's clones in your 501st garrison. You might try looking in their for sale forum you might snag a good deal,BUT You'll have to fix the armor for yourself to see how it would fit on you.

Well the good thing is it looks like different Jedi have different armor. Mace has just lower arms.

These are all good ideas.... thanks. I've got the Visual Dictionary now, so I'm going to look at it more closely. I do like Plo Koon's .... good suggestion. Our local 501st has several guys with multiple costumes, and the guys are really helpful, so I think I'll pick some brains on our next troop. I'm also fascinated by the "trashcan Fett" and drink cup ideas I've seen on other sites, and who knows, maybe I'll even try to sculpt something. (Koda inspired me... So I'm still in "ideas" mode... keep 'em coming! THANKS!!

My husband and I are working with a fellow costumer on armour using the trash can idea. Pretty affordable. I'll have to dig up the reciept for the total amount of supplies. It's definatly affordable.

Best is one with a smooth surface.I'm making some Japanese Samurai armor right now.I got a couple a Wal-Mart for 6.50 a piece. You'll have to get some fine grit sand paper. This will work well for the clone armor that Obi and Anakin are wearing now for the T.V. series.A dremel tool will work the best for cutting the trash can.If not probably a box cutter,or heavy duty exacto knife. Possibly a heat gun.Bondo- Lots and Lots of bondo. Try to wor with the curves of the trash can with the curves of your body.Make a template with some posterboard FIRST. Design it How it will fit.Get a WHITE China marker.to do your template on the trash can.The heat gun will make it flexible enough to bend a little more if needed to make a good fit..Then use bondo to glue any pieces together.Once you got that set and the glue has cured.Take the fine grit sandpaper,The Dremel can help you with this too if you got the proper attachments. Then primer and paint. Some polyurathane will probably help with chipping paint. It comes in a gloss,or a Matte finish

OOOOOOOOO, this is great!! REAL and practical information and video.... wow, thanks!! Also, I was chatting online last night with a local 501st friend (J'aii, he mentioned seeing you in armor at D*C) and he suggested doing the duct tape mannequin/dress form thing. (And he said to use real "Duck Tape", not the cheapo, b/c the real holds up better.) Reflecting on his advice, I think that's almost a necessity for fitting... fitting patterns and fabric on oneself is one thing, but fitting something rigid is another thing altogether. I think this could be very do-able... I don't mind the work.... actually I like doing crafty stuff and even refinishing furniture, so these tips are just what I need to get started. I have a Black & Decker tool like a Dremel... hubby gave it to me years ago, and after being packed up for a while it came out again 2 years ago to work on my light saber. (I don't think he ever expected me to need it for that! LOL) Thanks, my artsy and talented friends... keep the tips coming!
