Ok I thought this would be great idea for a thread... What type of ideas can we come up with to build up our group here in the western order? Cons, Charity events?
I know we we need business cards and maybe a banner for our appearances.

Jen can you go through our local group listed on the home page www.thejediassembly.comAnd see if you can e-mail to them and let them know we are firing up TJA here in the western order. Of course lets focus on local members here in OC, LA and SD.

Most, if not all, of TJA members in SoCal are members of Rebel Legion and participate there for the most part. They don't even come to the msg board here as they have their own. TJA is still the new kid. 501st gets a lot of contact from LFL, RL some. TJA was invited, FOR THE FIRST TIME, to be part of a LFL sponsored event just this month with the Pottery Barn events. So being part of RL means people get more events to attend.
I am the source of business cards, as posted in the merchandise thread.

Yes, some of us are from the RL and 501st. I'm part of both clubs myself but a small group of us are looking to grow this club. And it's funny that most of the So Cal members on the main home page are MIA in the RL. Being a Jedi, IMO is one of the best costumes to be in.

Rob has asked about a table at San Diego Comic Con... I have put this up to the Council...
I know that we have a press kit, some books on tutorials and fabrics, and hand outs... the question being is... if approved...
would our Western Order be able to staff a table at Comic Con? would there be enough members to fully staff the table for the required hours?

It would be hard to staff a table because 90% of the So Cal TJA members are also RL and 501st members. Even the So Cal FanForce clubs don't have tables anymore because they can't staff them; we have a combined FanForce table but it's usually the San Diego FanForce people who man it. It would probably be easier to have some TJA flyers/cards on the RL table since both groups have Jedi costuming.

I can see your point of view but you are assuming that those members would be at 501st or RL table. Members such as myself and Jen(per my clearing with her) would man the TJA table. Both of us have purchased our tickets and have our rooms set. Plus, new members that are planning to join tJA have already touch base with our idea and are excited to be part of Comic Con table. I know Donna is a diehard RL member that has been the XO and CO of the RL Sunrider Base (the southern california base of RL). Not to say she is very wise. I asking permission from the council to allow us to have a table at comic-con and represent TJA. I've taken up a quest of Building up TJA Western Order and fore see this to be a wonderful opportunity. And since Donna lives in San Diego and knows so much about comic con, I ask for her assistance and guidance in planning and manning the table.
So, feel free to call me at anytime, (714)263-6509

I really think it is not practical.
The barrier is not just having people to staff it. From what I can tell from the website, it costs about $2000 to have a booth at SD ComicCon. I find only applications for exhibitor and artists alley. I don't find "fan table" application. TJA as a group has no money
There are also a lot of hours to cover and the booth cannot be unstaffed at any moment. From the contract:
"Hoursand dates for installing, occupying and dismantling exhibits shall be those expressly specified by SDCC. If Exhibitor fails to install its display in its assigned space by one hour before show opens or leaves its space unattended during the Exhibit hours, SDCC shall have the right to take possession of the space and no refund will be due to Exhibitor. All exhibits must be open for business during the Event hours. Exhibitor may not dismantle the display until the Event is officially closed by SDCC. Exhibitors may not assign their display space to third parties without prior written approval from Comic-Con."
So that means it will have to be staffed: Wed, July 23: 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Thu, Fri, and Sat July 24, 25 & 26: 9:30 AM-7:00 PM
Sun, July 27: 9:30 AM-5:00 PM
