Something like that might not work if it was completely encased. It's called an AirSwitch for a reason, I would suppose. The two examples look like they are open to the air.
Were you thinking about gutting one of these? Or trying to find the parts? Sounds like it could be a pretty expensive Holocron!

at that price no way !! a very cool idea though, you might be able to fake it with one of those touch lamp adapters.

Yeah, either that or some sort of motion sensor with a very short range... like the ones that come in those annoying halloween decorations that shake and make noise when you pass by.
