The EU has explained that the saber Master Windu had in TPM was infact because he had exchanged his saber with his friend, Eeth Koth. Are there any other examples of Jedi swapping sabers? (not counting Anakin and Obi-Wan picking up fallen Jedi's sabers in ATOC, or any similar instances, but long-term extended exchanges)

No one knows of any other examples? It's not as if I was suggesting people swap sabers with each other ;D

I can't think of any examples, honestly...

I am 99% sure that's the only instance that there was in the EU, but I'm sure if it's such a tradition that there's many more undocumented trades in the Order.

It's a lot like the trials, we always hear about it but it's seen alot or anything. Well unless you read the power of the jedi sourcebook for rpg.

That's true, although they do seem to allow actual field experience to take the place of an assigned trial

It's not common but it would be something I would be comfortable with if I had a good Jedi friend...

I would also say a mark of respect and trust... If you make a saber and like it, to pass it to a friend yet still expect to get it back intact. To use the saber of a friend without damaging or loosing it to be able to bring it back. to simply use a weapon not made by yourself - believing hardily on the way that person uses the Force to build it. Lightsabers are more of a personnal thing, but swaps must be part of greater friendship for jedis.

Yeah, I think that's the problem. If it was a like-for-like swap, (el for el or costume for costume) I don't think I'd mind doing it either. Only problem is having a friend who has a saber of similar type and quality that would also make the temporary exchange ;D

I can think of a couple other examples. Count Dooku gave a pair of Sabres ti Ventress after destroying her own pair. This looked like a planned action for him to take her on as an apprentice as seen in Clone Wars Volume 1. Then we have General Grievious whom collected sabres from the Jedi he killed in battle.
It would be cool if there were more of us in a certain area. We could have a sabre workshop and then those whom chose to could then spar against others - winner takes the sabre.

Dooku's gift to Assaj was definitely a planned action to show he was taking her as an apprentice, and, Grievous took the sabers from Jedi he had killed as trophies, neither are true examples of Jedi exchanging their sabers as a sign of trust and friendship. I don't think that 'sparring for sabers' would be such a good idea, people invest a lot of time and money in their sabers, and would most likely not be happy at the prospect of having to give it away if beaten in a duel, it rather goes against the spirit of the concordence of fealty, because it is always assumed that the Jedi will return each other's sabers.

I agree. Id not be too keen on losing a saber ina dual. Somehow that feels wrong. as if the 'winner' is taking my weapon as a way to humiliate me, even worse that it'd also be a trophey.
Sabre swapping examples, I can't think of any but Mace and Eeth. I think as with otherts, to swap a sabre is a show of trusting the friend's care of the item, evne if their workmanship isn't 'up to par'. It was their blade, something they made, and a peice fo them is in it. I'd use it with great respect and humility.

I think if you have a nice area with plenty of Jedi and cons it's possible depeneding.
My former Master got me an exact replica of one his hilts. I'll probably do the same for my own Padawan...whoever that poor kid is..
