I'm going to be cos playing as a 16(ish) year old padawan at a few events and as i started picking up parts for my lightsaber i realized the design lends itself easily to making several lightsabers for maybe $15-20 more then it would cost to make just one because many parts have to be bought much bigger then needed so i was wondering if its acceptable for a padawan to carry 2 sabers?

Do you mean acceptable in cos-playing or for TJA membership?
I'd say that a jedi would only carry one saber at a time.... just my opinion.

It would depend on the padawan's skills I would think.
I know there are a lot of kids at my apartment complex that attempt dual weilding but still can't defend themselves that well against a trained combatant (me) with a single blade.

I'm 15 and I use 2 sabers, I'm very good at it, there is a style that you have to learn to get good enough with it. And although you may have to sabers it is hard to defend against someone with one, although it seems easy, it's not because they can add more power to one blow then you can defend with. And trust me I've trained, and I have enough bruises and scars to prove that.

One blade finds its mark easier than two for two tend to vie for the same targets.
One blade requires less concentration on the self and allows for more attention to the opponent.
However it must be said that two blades do look very cool!

I was trying to show them how to use one to defend and one to attack. One or two of them was catching on rather well before I had to start working again, I haven't had a chance to work with them since.

Main Gauche style? I'd use both for both myself. Attacks on one side defended by that saber and counterattack with the other one. Opponents would need to constantly worry about which blade was coming for them.

It was less Main Gauche style and more as you stated it...teaching them which would be needed for defense at the moment than a constant blade for defense.

in my expierence with fighting my friend is they think they can hit me more easily with 2 but they are wrong. One saber is easier to control and you don't have the possibiliy of hitting ones self with it more than with 2. For example darth mauls saber staff you notice he has to do alot of flips, spirals and jumps to hit people and not his self. Its kinda the same with 2 sabers.
