that's true, but if apadawan is given a saber by her master, or the padawan chooes to take a fallen master's saber in hommage to that master, to my understanding that is, but my understanding and mind slip sometimes, but that's my two dracary credits worth, lol.
but personally i prefer to build my saber hilts, gives me a certain satisfaction inside.

Speaking of building lightsabers, does anyone know how to make a homemade saber as strong as a Parksaber?

I know that tradition says that a Jedi builds her/his own saber, I was merely wondering what the opinions of the other members were... I would like to build my own, and am currently considering a design located at: mywebpages.comcast.net/yellowbox/bigyellowbox/index.htm Any general tips that might be useful for a rookie like me? know what you really want, make several varation sketches, level of difficulty, over all time it takes to design, fabricate, and construct, and finish work.how much you are really to pay out for the peices of your saber. but mainly the best advice from me, i would have someone help me if un familar with particular tools, don't be shy to ask for help.
after you have done all the above, pick your favorite design, and go from there, cause that is probably the best saber for you anyway, the least likely one,and one of the best tools is the imagination.
my very first saber hilt was nothing more than a wooden closet dowell rod, cut to a certain shape, scrounged the junk box, found some rubber gasgets, some old model car parts,(the chrome wheels make cool emmitters), and i made the nobs and switches from old rdio control spur gears and ballbearing spacer gasgates. and remeber this do or do not, there is no try. my last tip, becareful of the saw blades, box knife blades, the sharp edges of the material you choose to use for your saber, i suggest pvc pipe, but that's just me, lol, anywho have fun making your saber.

Thank you for the tips, Master Aldan. I am unsure of just when I will begin work on my saber, as I might(and should) wait untill I get a master.
So far, building a ligthsaber is one of the things I am looking forward to the most. Thankfully, my dad has more tools than Rainman could count, so I don't think I'll have much trouble there..... I might also talk him into helping somewhat... ;D Anyway, thanks to everyone for your opinoins and thanks again to Master Aldan for his tips.... Ra-Je

ra-je, you're welcome, no need to wait for a master, i wouldn't think, since basicly the saber you build is specificly for you, i say go for it, begin your saber hilt, main advice to give, eye protection with any tools, and as always be extremely careful handling any and all tools. this is truly i beleive the one of the two funest parts of costuming, the hands of the costume, and the hands ob of the prop construction, be it a blaster or saber hilt. have fun and good luck.
