Wednesday I just relized I'll be wandering around Motor City Comic Con for a good 6-7 hours, and I've been a bit iffy about taking the FX saber with me and I figured HEY! Why not make a bag to carry it in. So I took my left over linen for the shoulder stuff and made myself a bag to carry it in.
It will be hidden under my robe for the most part, but it's going to be useful ^_^ I would hope anyway after I went stiching happy on the machine.
I'll get pictures of it up when I come home Saturday night, if not Sunday I'll have some.

Nope not like that, if you've seen the bads Kendo swords go in, it's kinda like that, but not completely. I have no padding in it. just the bag and a strap to sling on my back/aroudn the front toss on my robe and tada! it's hidden. I'm pondering ot take my SLytherin bag or my Darth Vadr bag...I think a Slytherin Jedi would be funny, but my Vader bags got all my neat keychains/goodies on it lol I'll get pictures asap

I picked up one from ebay. It works alright, but the biggest problem is that the weight of the hilt makes the bag swing down toward the ground. It sort of looks like this: But the one that I have includes a rubber strap that supposedly prevents the saber from slipping out, unwanted. Like I said, it works alright. It's definitely better than dropping it (which I did once while carrying my bin. That experience actually prompted my purchase. -Kyle

Got pictures, had a few people comment on my bag saying they liked the idea. Had fun, and my arms could still carry all my other goodies today at MCCC Also picture 1 on here I had my FX saber in the bag. I made it bigger to not worry about slipping, but it never came into a postion when on my back to drop it.

Being that my saber has removable blades, I am not in need for a *saber* bag, but a *blade* bag. I was thinking about making it part of my robe - you can hide it in the robe and it wouldn't be much of a problem... maybe sewn under the armpit?

If you sew it, the stitching may show unless you have a lining in your robe. What I did was use "stitch witchery" a bonding product usually used for hems. I cut the blade pocket bigger than needed and then bonded it to the inside of the robe with the product. It's an iron on, doublesided, fusible tape sort of stuff. I positioned the pocket just under my left armhole, to run down the back of the robe. People can hardly tell the blade is there.

That is very interesting, Master Kai. Would you happen to have pictures of the bag position inside the robe, and you wearing the robe *with* blade in the bag? I have been hesitant to perform such a bag, but if it was successfully made, I shall proceed

I have a "blade pocket" sewn into my robe as well. You can get away with stitching on the outside if you have a very dark color of brown.
But for lighter colors, I made my robe with a very wide facing on the inside front, over 6 inches. The blade pocket is sewn onto the facing before I finish the front of the robe and tack down the facing. So the stitching is only on the facing, not on the outside of the robe. But when you make the pocket, don't make a flat pocket; make sure that it bulges (inward next to your body when you're wearing the robe) a little out to make room for the blade. Otherwise the outline of the blade may be visible on the outside of the robe.
The blade pocket is just a long skinny pocket that is long enough for the blade to fit all the way inside. I put mine about 4 inches in on the inner, front facing of the robe.

Wow. that is even more "intrusive" of the robe as what I was trying to figure out how to make. I love it. It is SOOOooooo simple I feel almost stupid not to have thought about it by myself! Thanks for the pics. As you say, it mostly doesn't show. I guess its on my list of things to modify on my costume. Soon it will be "completed" if that can ever happen

Hehe... yes. I know. But I hope that at some point I'll just stop working on it... you know, feeling that "as-is" is more then ennough.
