well i was looking on ebay for a belt for my costume, and i realized something problematic. my waist is to small for most of them, they standardize 2 sizes so that they can reduce work on their part. well their lowest is 32" and my waist is 27". my hips arent even wide enought for those belts, sitting at 30".
can anyone think of a way i might be able to resolve this besides eating a lot of food (i like my waist)

I can do you a custom belt any size you want ... a 20 inch waist is the smallest I have made so far.

I also make belts. This Christmas, I made a couple of medieval style sword belts for a kids. After making belts that small, a 27 inch waist should be no problem.

You can maybe cut the closure off the back and just add some velcro. Assuming you're looking at the adjustable ones.

one thing to remember is that the costume will add considerable thickness to your waist. that's pants, inner tunic, outer tunic, obi and tabbards all gather there.

Agreed - I am 34 at the waistline and my belt had to be about 40 inch to fit correctly... before having a belt being done, you should take measurments with "the rest" of your costume on you, in order to not end up with an improper belt.

ok, im actually getting some fabric soon, so ill wait until i finish that to get the belt going.
master mon-jas: when i get the rest of the costume done ill pay you to make a belt when i get the measurments.

Good call... Master Mon-Jas makes fantastic belts! And Den... good advice. All those layers add more than you might think.

I had the exact same problem! I have a 27" waist (it turns into a 29-30" with all of the fabric) and the belt I bought only went down to a 32". What I did was measure the belt and mark where I needed holes at..then my friend has a scrudbooking kit with some kind of punch...the hole size was the exact same as the holes the belt came with. So, she punched the new holes in the belt with the punch and a hammer...it took less then 5 minutes!! I can ask her the excat name of the tool she used if you need it. Jenny Something must be wrong with the boards...everytime I spell "s.c.r.a.p" booking kit it posts as scrudbooking kit

I make belts as well Monkeyjumpgod. I've a small waist as well. most clothing doesn't even fit me. Here's how to solve that quickly, easily and cheaply. 1.The simplest thing to do is after you have your costume on, put the belt on. 2.The mark on it where it fits snuggly on top of the layers. 3. Remove belt. Cut off the extra parts. 4. carerfully clean and dry the parts of the leather where you'er going to affixe the sticky backed velcro. 5. Attach industiral velcro. it's plastic, sturdy and should hold. (Found at Wal-mart. it's sticky on the back. You can punch holes in the velcro and belt leather and secure it with rivits so it stays IF you'er unsure if it'd stay put.) Easy simple, cheap. If you'er coming to Dragon Con, I'll be at the TJA table, I can solve it on the spot. If not, follow the tips I listed and it'll solve it.
