council members, Since there's a local fanforce here in Lafayette...I was thinking of holding a jedi belt workshop. I thought it might be fun..teaching others the skills i learned.
Do you have any suggestions on how to set these things up?
The only real problem i forsee is "buckles". Money is another problem, but can be easily solved one way or the other. ( I collect money...buy supplies, etc.)
Thanks in advance.

I tried to hold a leatherworking 101 class with our Chicago Force (Fan Force) Costume group....and I think I just picked a bad weekend....because I was the only one there that was going to do a belt....
anyway... post for any interest in the Southern Order and on your local Fan Force first.....
and....rather than run around for supplies.... post a supply list of needed items...
and where they can be purchased (Tandy leather on line is a fabulous resource...and they ship fast) .....belt buckles (back fastening buckle) I found at Joannes....it is plastic...but it looks like pewter....just about all of the rest is available at Tandy...you can probably go in as a group on things like dye or leather cement.
post also a link to some of the tutorials.....so the interested parties can do a little advance reading and see if it is something they would actually like to do...

i've come up with a new problem.....
the order that i usually make my belts is like this.... 1) approximating size/lining up holes, etc. 2) cutting and punching holes 3) dyeing 4) assembly with metal parts (rivets/snaps/buckles)
I usually dye before i add the metal parts to avoid coloring them.
Since the dyeing process can often take multiple hours/days to complete...what modifications to this process do you suggest i make?

I guess your best bet would be to make the workshop a two time outing....so that the first workshop ends at the dying process.....participants take home thier projects to dye... then the second workshop would be the assembly process....sometimes you simply can't finish a project in one outing....

Can you dye in advance? a set number of Black, brown, or the like.
Would punching the holes marr the appearance.? advance dying would make it a one day (few hour) workshop and the people could wear their belts home.
