This is my new belt: I made the belt from vegetable tanned leather. I finished off the edges with a bevelling tool and an edge slicker, dyed the leather, and put it all together. The rivets came from saberbelt. I bought the buckle from Lincraft years ago. They've never stocked them again since The loops on either side of the buckle are thinned out with a skiving tool, and then they are rivetted closed. This is the second belt I've made and it was so much fun. It was definitely the most fun part of this costume to make It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, though I was nervous at first about dyeing the leather. It looked too dark, but then it got a bit lighter, and it looks much better in natural light. I didn't make the food capsules myself. I ended up buying them because it worked out a lot cheaper than making them myself. I'm pretty happy with them, although I've considered repainting them. It's fastened with lacing at the back, but there are two sets of holes, so it is adjustable. If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them

Leatherwork looks top notch!
Did you have any prior leather experience, or did you learn by obtaining the correct tools and making the belts yourself?

Nice job!
What did you use for a finish?
I'm on my 3rd belt by now. I keep getting better at it, as I get more experience, and better hardware.

Thanks everyone I enjoyed making this immensely. I bought the tools and taught myself, with some guidance from a few online tutorials (particularly the one by jedi kai), and a very basic leatherworking book I have. The guy at my local store is very helpful and answers all my questions, even the crazy ones. I thought that making my own jedi belt would be great for a first project, and I hope to tackle some more complicated projects sometime next year. Leatherworking is very addictive! Loreen, I'm not sure what you meant by 'what did I use for a finish'? If you mean dye, I used 'raven oil' and 'high shine sealer'.

Yeah, I meant sealer. It doesn't look that shiny though. I'm surprised.
What kind of "crazy" questions did you have for the guy at the leather store?

I'm surprised too, but I like the finish, so that's okay I put a lot of it on. I didn't really ask anything too crazy, just a lot of beginner type questions on tools and finishing and that sort of thing. It just felt odd to me because it was all so new. Now I go in, and I know what I'm talking about.... and he recognises me. lol

That high shine sealer is what I used on my boots. It semms to have worn off quickly.

Thanks Primrodo At first I was a bit concerned about making it so wide, but I read somewhere that the standard width was usually 2.5 inches, so that’s what I went with. It probably looks a little out of proportion because I have such a small waist, and it’s a little belt. Lol

Mine's got to be the widest.. it's 3 inches, with a 3/4 inch accent belt. I had no idea when I made it what the width should be, all I did was use the widest belt I could find. I like the way it looks and it's very comfy--- my only complaint is that it dwarfs the buckle. Isn't it great how Star Wars costuming can inspire you to learn crafts that you would not normally have the need to learn?

Are those the food capsules I've seen on ebay... the ones that open so you can actually put something inside?

Lol Misconception actually, it was early guess work from TPM Anakins Belt for instance is 2.25" Obi wans is 2 3/8" and looking at Bultar Swans and other female Jedi we found that many were as thin as 2" Not downsaying your belt though, this si all still pretty recent, scaled by the food capsules actually Leda...3" holy mackeral, and you are pretty tiny yourself...I guess I was too busy bugging Xana about her rivits to notice at C3...
