My idea for my new saber hasn't worked out quite as I'd planned, so I'm going to have to re-make it with a few adjustments, but here's what I've got so far... (It would have a purple blade)

Doesn't look too bad, just a little rough around the edges. I quite like it actually, did a good job of catching my eye.
What changes are you gonna make?

Thanks Well, my original plan (as above) was to cut through the tube at the upper grip to achieve the curved effect, like Count Dooku's... However, without anything inside, the open cuts in the metal don't look as good as I'd hoped, so the remodeled version will only have one cut to achieve the curve, the rest of the upper grip will be solid. Other things that need work are the upper emitter shroud (doesn't show up too well in the picture, but it's actually a seperate piece of angled brass) It doesn't curve far enough around the grip, or extend far enough down, as I just cut it too small. The other is a really minor detail, but the rubber that I used for the lower grip is too chunky, and the two plates of it make the grip uncomfortable, so I'll have to look for something a bit thinner

Ah yes I can see what you mean. maybe you could cut the main handle and fit the grips on the inside, but push them up so that they are protruding a bit. You seem to be a pretty good metal worker, its just a thought.

Thanks, that's a pretty good idea I would try something like that, but sadly the tools I have at my disposal (Dremel and hacksaw) won't give me the precision I'd need to do that. The rubber itself is really much thicker than normal (it's from bike handlebars) and is about 5mm thick, when normally they'd only be about 2-3 mm thick Rest assured though, I'll be sure to post more pics when I've rebuilt it Strangely, I was originally going to spray the tap I used as the pommel black, but when I fitted it together, I think it looks nicer as chrome

That looks nice now, it should look even better on v. 2!
Good luck.

Thanks I learned a few things on that design, so hopefully the next should be even better

Have you tried foam rubber? The kind I use is about 1mm thick form the craft department at walmart (you can also get it at most any craft store), it is great as a handgrip... and you can't really see much depth between it and the metal hilt. Also, to fix the angle on your emitter shroud, try using copper tubing, and bending and cutting it at an angle and length that pleases you. As far as the cutts into open metal, I would suggest using more of the foam rubber under the surface to create a solid look.

I hadn't thought of foam rubber, there aren't any walmarts in the UK, but I'll certainly have a look in a craft store When I said that the emitter shroud wasn't curving around the grip enough, I was meaning it didn't go from the front of the saber to the back, but only about halfway round, the problem was simply with my measurements, but thanks for the suggestion WIth the upper grip, I'm planning on keeping it solid metal with just a single cut to create the curve
