Okay everyone. Next week after Ep III comes out I'm starting construction on a canon costume so that in a month on my 18th birthday or sometime shortly after, I can become a full member. But to go with that costume I would like to have a new saber. I would like an EL with good weight for sparing. What do you guys suggest?

The most nicely balanced saber that I have is one that was made by "The Saber Works" www.thesaberworks.com/ unfortunately he's not in business anymore. His were by far, the best for sparring, in my personal opinion. But lightech makes a saber that comes with a brass insert for weight and balance. I've never sparred with a Parks, so I can't offer any advice there. The one thing to remember is that sparring with a polycarbonate tube (which is what the el's are) can be, well... "bouncy" for lack of a better word. At least mine are. I've often thought this might have something to do with the length of the blade, and that shortening it might help, but I haven't looked into that just yet.

I agree with Leda, the polycarinate tube is to swooshy... I have a parks saber I used for sparing...well, lets just say it no longer works properly or even holds together very well. Honestly, EL sabers are simply not good for sparing, you need a solid acrylic, wood, or metal blade for that. If you use arcrylic you can still get a hilt with built in LEDs that will light it. Or, here is a secret (well, I guess not anymore). Get a powdered acrylic rod (it looks milky white) and use a green (or red for you darksiders out there) laser to light it...it gives an awsome arc-wave effect.

Yeah, I own the lighttech viper defender, the one with the brass insert and they are swooshy, but I figure I could come up with a good idea if I knew how well other peoples lightsabers worked for them.

PVC is a winner too.
I did break one of my friend's blade, but we were really getting into it without even thinking about it (IT'S THE FORCE!) The top broke and flew across the room, and it could've done some serious damage. If you tape the whole blade in clear packing tape, if it breaks, it won't shatter.
