The Hero version refers to the realistic metal premium version that is used for the costume and close ups. Stunt versions are almost always altered to make the saber duels more comfortable on the actors (very wimpy actors). One of the most interesting challenges is to find the most comfortable grip and be able to fight with a saber that has all the various protrusions. Some stunt versions also are made of resin or even rubber to make the stunt work safer for the actors........don't want them falling on a metal saber and injuring their wallets...

Ack!!! I've seen Qui-gon's final fight scene so many times....and I never noticed that the lightsaber didn't have a hole in the emitter! Doh! And I just finished a couple of plumbing parts/hardware sabers; they look pretty good, but now I want to find something to plug the holes with. Fortunately, my Heiland already has a removable insert with no hole. And, yes, even though it's just a plain, plywood box with one big foam insert inside, that lightsaber box looks cool. I believe that the "hero" version (although I've never heard it called that before) is the bladeless prop that Obi-Wan wears in the movies. It has a small indent which has the look of a tiny hole, and that's what we're supposed to imagine the blade coming out of. Here's a screen shot... you can see the indent in it if you look hard. Also, the MR version is accurate in that way.

the box itself looks cool, but the stuff inside looks better

The sabre too heavy? Sheee. he oughta' walk about with th two metal sabers and full pouches on 'em for 14 hours a day.:-P
I don't evne notice my hilt's weight, but then agaion how heavy are the hero sabres anyway? I've held a saber that weighted four punds but that's still not very bad if the weight is distributed properly.

it isn't so much weight as it is the belt pulling down, that was the major complaint from what I remember

Yeah that's exactly why I love the one I wear... it's light... empty save for LED's and wires... the battery is a button battery.
I have that pulling the belt down problem...
