I stumbled upon the motherload of a website when I found LightSabers from the Big Yellow Box. This website tells you how to make several styles of sabers from parts you can find at Lowe's Home Improvement or Wal-Mart. I constructed mine to resemble a version of Kenobi's saber from EpiIV. This awesome site can be found here bigyellowbox.tripod.com/index.htm

This is definitely an awesome site! I am constructing the double bladed lightsaber, and it has been very easy to do. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to build an authentic looking saber.

Shoshana-- are you making the same double bladed saber shown on the BYB site? I was thinking of making the same one, only for a single blade. I never thought of a Jedi having a double bladed lightsaber!! That sounds cool! I just hope I won't be fighting with my drill press like I was fighting with my sewing machine. Ah... what we don't go through to become Jedi....... ;D

That website is pretty cool. My only problem was either i didnt buy what he said or his instructions were very poor. I ended up with a LOT of pieces left over that he listed. Even then I altered several of the instructions and am going to be building another set of sabers. Instead of a double bladed one I'm just going to have 2 smaller ones.

Hi Xana! Yes, I am building the same double bladed lightsaber from the BYB site, but I'm not putting any blades on it. I didn't see why a Jedi couldn't have one!!! I choose it because it looks really cool, and since it's my first attempt, it looked pretty easy. And it certainly was!! All I have left to do is grind the rough edges, paint the outside black, and rivet the pieces together. I've just been too busy with my costume to get it done. I haven't been fighting with my sewing machine, but I am with the patterns . And I only have 5 weeks until Celebration II ! Will I ever get it all done?

Use the force Shoshana. You'll get it done. if all else fails.. do it by hand lol. Or be like me and find someone who has the time to fuss with their sowing machine. I love my room mate. she has connections all over the city. I just pay for materials and provide the fabric and her mom provides me with a costume not to long after. She does a great job to. Luckily it wont cost as much this time around becuse she doesnt need to reso the robe. Cost me $80 last time. about $65 this time around but only because i'm getting to pairs of pants for the outfit. Pictures comming soon lol!

Well, the sewing actually turned out okay. Solorad (my husband) put on all of the pieces I had made the other day, and they looked really good! Even the terrible robe I made. I am going to make him another one to be part of his actual costume, but I don't need to change as much as I thought. So, I am really happy ;D! My lightsaber is an entirely different story though . I finished sanding and then painted the outer tube, but when I went to put it all together, the inner tube got stuck and wouldn't slide into place. Then, I couldn't get it to come back out. I tried everything I could, but I finally got mad, got a hammer, and busted it into five or six pieces . I don't normally do things like that, but I was pretty mad. However, by breaking it up, I figured out what I did wrong, and the second one should be easy!! I WILL get this done before Celebration!!

Oh no! That does NOT sound good. At least you figured ouit what was wrong with it. (So you can tell me before I start making mine! ) I'm glad the costume part is working out well. I am going shopping for tunic material on Saturday. Can't wait!!

I got to meet the guy who runs that website. He's really cool. I had a blast hanging out around him and the 501st. Those guys were so much fun.

I'm starting my new saber today. Not really going by any plan...just letting the Force flow thru me and see what happens!

I have instructions for constructing a lightsabre like the one I carry. Total cost is around $40. I can e-mail them to anyone who is interested. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to build mine, start to finish, and I'm really pleased with how it looks.
And Tanthos, I used your method of letting the Force guide me with this one. It's my third, and by far my best.
