Earlier this year I applied to transfer to a different section in the hospital where I work.... the Transitional Care Unit (the nursing section). I was informed I was selected the first week in August. So this week I was finally told when I will move there: 1 October. Finally. I hope I like it. I'm looking forward to something different. In some ways, primary care is something different every day and in others it had gotten to be routine. It is also an incredible amount of work involving being in two places at once (the clinic and inpatient care) with a patient panel size of 3500-5000. The TCU is desirable because that is also the location of our hospice unit. I have one more full week. I need to start packing and moving my office. Sept 24-26, I orient the person who will cover my position in primary care while recruitment is underway. On Sept 27 & 28, I will orient in TCU. My graduate intern has elected to move with me. She had applied to intern in Primary Care. When I got the position, I offered her the option to change preceptors and stay in Primary Care or to move with me to TCU. Great news! Change is good.... hope you like it!

Yikes. We had a bit of a scare last night. I was doing dishes when suddenly this loud popping sound could be heard. It wasn't fireworks...it nwas gunshots. My Dad went into military mode and yelled at everybody to drop to the floor. All the lights were turned off. For one scary half hour, we waitied, on our bellies, in the dark. Turns out someone was shooting in the back alley last night. Scared the snot out of everybody. The good news? Everybody's okay. We did call the police, but they never got here.

Glad you're OK! Where do you live that the police don't respond to "shots fired" I'd consider a serious move away from there!

Well, glad you are alright and that your dad knew how to respond! Bad that the police never got there.

wow! You live in a dangerous area? Sounds like some parts of LA! The only gunshots I ever hear are from the neighbors hunting in the woods out back. Wakes me up in the morning sometimes.

I helped Acal out thursday night. She has her own business now (String Solutions...she rents school kids string instruments and teaches lessons). Thursday night was the big 'rodeo' where kids come to rent instruments. There were 4 companies renting them...and Acal had 85% of the business...we were swamped ;D ;D Congrats Acal, and best of luck with your continued success
