For my Jedi costume, the only thing I am really lacking are boots. Do they have to be the traditional leather look, or can they be rubber and canvas hiking type boots? If I can use my hiking boots and maybe just add some greaves then I'm set. If not then I guess I'll be shelling out quite a few bucks.

Th elook is the big thing. There are members here who have short boots but use what are called half-chaps to make them look taller.
A good place to look in like Goodwill, Salvation Army or any other thrift store you may have around. I've been hitting a few these past few weeks piecing together Karm's "Sky Captain" costume and I've seen lot sof boots at the stores, so check em out! Also check eBay. I got mine for like $7 including shipping from there.

Hmm........ I agree with Cor-Al. It's how they look on, with your costume. Doesn't Ki-Adi Mundi have suede boots? Or is it just the top part that is suede?

Yeah Ki-Adi's boots look a lot more traditional, old-fashioned medeval suede type leather with the tops folded down and even has a lace across part

Maybe you can send a picture of your boots with the greeves so we can see what they look like.
Most of us who haven't money like you, go scrounging in our closets and do a lot of jury rigging. Some do a spatlike thing but if not done well it'll look like a spat. One person has suead mochison type boots like Ki Adi's.(Picture in the thread entry above) Some even have used the buckle up the side motorcross type like Saesee Tinn's. I knew I liked that Jedi.:-)
There's a LOT of latitude in this area.
If you can send a picture of one of them on. Maybe a front, back and side view.

My dad's coming to see me in Calgary this weekend and he might be buying me a digital camera then. Otherwise I'll have to find a friend with a digital camera.

Ok, that's cool.
My first step with any costuming is to go into my clsoet and see what Ihave in there I can use. Like kahki type pants.(Cream, tan kahki, brown or black), or boots. If you already have'em chances are they fit and are (I hope) comfy.

I was taking a second look at the boots I have and I realized it would be hard to conceal the logo on them, so I'm probably better off going to Value Village or something anyway.

Where's the logo? And what does it look like? Maybe it looks cool enough to make it a part of the costume.

It's an orange saloman logo on the side. I suppose since it's sort of a swirly S shape and not actual writing that it could work. Perhaps if I colour it differently it will look right.

Saloman? You mean like a lizard? Like a gecko or Salamander?

I'm referring to Saloman the ski company. They also make hiking boots, which I have. I will play around with them this weekend, accessorizing them with different pieces of this and that.

Do boots have to be a natural (ie brownish) colour, or can they be grey leather accented with black rubber and canvas?

I would stick with brown, but......... if your over all costume is brown/tan and very Jedi looking, we might ok grey when we see a picture. And if you are volunteering for any LFL events, you have to be as cannon as possible, so brown is safest. Some people here have a black belt and/or boots and they they look fine because the overall look is Jedi and in the brown family. Does that answer your question or confuse you more? I just e-mailed the rest of the council to get opinions, so let's see..............
