I am a vegetarian and an animal activist . Does anyone know where I can get a leather substitute? I want to make my boots, belt, and pouches myself.

I'd guess that you will find one either at a leather source or at a fabric & craft store. Most fabric stores do sell vinyl (pleather) but, if you're looking for a "breatheable" fake leather it might not be that easy. You could try checking the ads in the back of The Vegetarian Times magazine, they might have a source listed in there. Or, you could try emailing them, they might have someone there who knows wheere to look for it. Let me know what you find. I'll check at the theatre fabric place here in the city, they might have something.

You're not planning on eating your boots, are you? (had to say it) - but here's what I'm doing: •for the boots: get some Caddet Ridding boots (synthetic and not much money either) and some leather-like strap material from a fabric store or Walmart and folow the tutorial on the Padawans Guide. •for the belt, use some of that fake leather strap material and wing-it, it's just a belt. that's what I'm doing. •for the pouches, well, I haven't gotten to that yet, but I'd say get some vinyl from a fabric shop and go for it! Same procedure as with leather pouches without wearing anything dead. I'm also going to make a holster for a Han costume from vinyl when I get he chance. I'm not a vegetarian (at least not intentionaly) and I'm not very active about saving animals... but I agree that hides belong on their respective creatures rather than part of a costume someone made for fun.
