I like to wonder at the differences between Luke in ANH and his father in AOTC. What a difference! Luke is definitely his mother's son. He inherited his father's abilities with the force, but not much of his ambition. Sure he desperately wanted to get off the farm, but not a lot past that; Owen Lars would NEVER have been able to keep Annakin at home at that age.
And honestly, Luke never got to do the fun stuff about being a Jedi, so he pretty much shouldered it as seriously as Obi-wan did. He becomes the hero, but he also landed in a Rebellion where his best friend from high school got killed on the first day. He got a late-life crash course in All-Things-Jedi from Yoda and then pushed out the door to confront long-lost Daddy, the second-most evil guy in the galaxy.
Leia got her father's temper, but her mother's sense of duty. It seems like Annakin had too much of everything and it got redistributed between his two children. My guess is that Annakin is powerful enough to beat Palpatine one-on-one, but power isn't actually the solution to the unbalanced Force problem. And that's what Annakin didn't get until the very end.
