I stumbled over a wool/silk mix fabric on www.dharmatrading.com website and was wondering how that stuff would work for an overobe? It's white but can be dyed. It's insanely exspensive but cheaper by the bolt. Does anyone know if the wool/silk mix breathes?

The wool/silk blend should breath fine, though you should check the fabric weight. I have a robe made from 8 oz/sq yard wool which is about as heavy as you want it. 5-7 oz/sq yard is good for a lighter weight robe. Any less than 5 oz/sq yard might look too flimsy for a robe.
I have some wool/silk that I want to make an elven cloak from, as soon as I make the dress to go with it. I tried a small piece in the wash and it gets more woolly with washing which I think is perfect for a robe, or an elven cloak. The fabric itself is very smooth and nice, before washing.

I would think it would be very difficult to evenly dye that much fabric, though.

Kai, you have that right, unless you have a serious dye vat/boiler, it will come out blotchy, which might be interesting, but, very unpredictable.

Wow, I didn't even know you could get sweatshirt material in that color. I've never seen it. Is it all cotton?

Comfy? I'll bet, I've used fleece and double brushed flannel, hadn't thought of sweatshirt knit, but i'll bet it drapes well.

Oh, one thing about sweatshirt knit, or any stretchy fabric -- don't store it for long periods of time on a hanger. For something as big as a robe the weight of it will stretch out all on it's own, making the hem uneven or some parts getting out of shape. For anything big, with some stretch to it, it's best to just store it folded, and there shouldn't be any problem with wrinkles with knit.

THanks gang. I think I can use the X-Large load on the washing machine to dye the fabric , just keep turning the time back and agitaiting the fabric.
