I remember reading somewhere that the fabric used for the robes in Ep I were WW II blankets. So I checked ebay and found quite a few of them. Try searching for it on ebay and you might find some great fabric for only around ten dollars for three or so blankets.

Dressing The Galaxy has corrected that rumor (about the blankets). It was some vintage wool found in London but not blankets.
However, if the blankets are the right color, fabric and weight and cheap, no reason not to use them.

The one advantage to using old blankets for robes is that they've might have been pre-shrunk, and so, easier to launder. Unlike the vintage, WWII material they used for Ep I. It's a good thing that they filmed the water scenes last.
I wonder if a robe that had shrunk too much for Ewan McGregor or Liam Neeson might be just the right size for me?

I believe the wool army blankets in question were used in the OT, as that's where I remember reading that. However, if the blankets that you got were US Army blankets you will most likely need to dye them as they're usually green, wool is dyable, but beware the water temp. and dryer temps to hot will cause them to felt.
