I was thinking today, If I sewed hair combs in to the hood, when I put my hood up I could press them into my hair and they would help keep it up ... Experimenting ... results to follow.

That sounds like a good idea Mon-jas. The haircomb idea sounds like it'd probably work. My hair is very fine and I thin k they'd slid right through. I was thinking maybe lining the hood with suead the same color. Hopefully it'd grip the hair and stay put.

You'd need to put them where they wouldn't show when your hood was down though.
I wonder where optimum placement for those would be? I'm sure you'll figure it out.

I have a very small strip sewed each end in my hood made from the same material as the hood itself so you cant see it easily. I then use a simple hairgrip put through the strip and hair which will keep the hood in place and stop it falling off.
Works really well.

Very cool Jeffrick. Is it hidden in the hem of the hood?

I'm working on a hidden strap in the hood that doesn't rely on gripping the hair at all; it would go under the chin. So far, not successfully, but I have hopes.

Ok this is going to sound like a dumb question but how often would you put your hood up? I've only put it up once since July. When would be appropriate times to have the hood up?

Jauhzmynn, yes it is, well its about 3 inches back from the edge and as my robe is a nice dark brown wool and the strip is only 3cm long its not noticeable. When the hood is down you cant see that bit anyway due to the way the hood sits on the shoulders. As for how often you wear the hood up, well that depends on what were doing. Its great to have it up when making an entrance, then theres all the times it rains (hey in in England, it rains alot here )

Good point. England= rain, right. had it up when I was outside & it got a bit buggy this summer, it helped. I try not to wear it outside in the rain. I've been very very lucky so far in that matter. Of course I didn't have it in Indianapolis for C3 & it would have really been used then, frequently.

lol.....I have to actually wear my robe once in awhile....I almost never wear it...unless it is outside...and REALLY cold....
I guess I never thought of how to keep the hood up...
but...that does sound like a good idea....but...might look bad when the hood is down.... dunno....

just a thought. Couldn't you add a bit of extra material to the hood edge (the part that's around your face)? Perhaps that would slightlt increase the weight of the front of the hood and keep it from falling off so easily?

You might try wig combs, they are much smaller and finer than hair combs, they most likely wouldn't be noticed and are fine enough to grip even my baby fine hair, they are used in hairpcs to keep them in place, about 11/2 inch long and about a 1/2 inch deep, made of very fine metal wire, could be sewn into the hood

I had a brain storm out of the blue a few days ago and just photographed my idea this am. glue a pin to a reglular hair comb and only pin it into the hood when needed. So when it's not needed it can be unpinned and thus not show. images15.fotki.com/v231/photos/4/42813/792776/comb-vi.jpg
