Are we sure that's Qui-Gon's costume on the left? The sleeves look an awful lot like Mace's from RotS. But the tunic does look like Qui-Gon's And with Obi-Wan's robe, maybe they just pinned it on the mannequin that way. Looks like the sleeve hem is messed up... like it faded or something. I remember someone saying on here that Obi-Wan's Ep III Robe didn't have any shoulder tucks. However I found this pic from one of the exhibits, and it looks to me like there are some;

Yeah, I knew about the AtoC tucks, but I never noticed them on his RotS robe!

I did think it had tucks in ROTS. Probably just the way the light is hitting the fabric that's making it look faded.

I just finished an Obi-Wan-type robe and I have to say that if you want to put in tucks, you need to allow a lot of extra fabric in the body for them as well. The ones in Obi-Wan's robe are really big that go out past the shoulder. I only put in modest tucks at the shoulder; wide ones like Obi-Wan's would only make me look shorter.

You're all right. (well most of you anyways ) In EP I no tucks. Qui-gon didn't need them, and it kept Obi looking young, with a ways to grow. In EP II they gave Obi tucks, to make him look more "heroic". If you've played with tucks you know that they not only make a person look like they have massive, manly shoulders, but they also causes the hole garment to V down, and makes the waste look smaller, and the garment look more fitted. They really showed them off in EP II as well. If you look closely they almost always have Obi's hood turned back, off his shoulders, t show off the tucks, and their effect on the garment. Anakin didn't have them to keep him looking young, and wimpy. :lol In EP III Obi had them, but through most of the movie, they turned the hood down over them, so diminish there effect. Wall, it was Anakin's turn to shin, he had big, honkin', tuck's, that once again they just love to show off. Look at big bad Anakin, the butt kicking hero of the repoblic.:lol It is an unmitigated ban, to put proper tucks in, and it's almost impossible to do it right on a garment with no shoulder seem. (at least for an amateur, like me) I'm 6' 3", and well over 200 pounds. (mostly mussel) I Hate tucks, they make me look like the halk. So I left them of my Obi robe, and I just where the hood over the shoulder, and few can tell, that there are not tucks there. Jason

I have a new robe and I put in small tucks that I'm still adjusting. I've almost got them right. But really big tucks on a robe would just make me looks shorter.

Jason You're right about that, I've done tucks on seamed and no seamed shoulders and it is much more difficult to get them right when there is no seam to follow. Personally I can't stand wearing a robe without tucks... I like the way it looks on me much better, and it doesn't slip off my shoulders, or pull the costume down. But the tuck has to sit on my shoulder right... and for that reason I need to make mine deeper than those on the screen costumes.
