This is one of those, "Wow, I didn't notice that before" moments.....I never noticed how incredibly long Mace Windu's sleeves are. I suppose I should have noticed the first time he went flying out of Palpatine's office window, but there was a lot going on in that scene.
Mace has the longest sleeves I've seen on a Jedi in the movies. The ends of them are like tails, or flags, and they go more than halfway to the floor. It's just an interesting variation for a robe.

When his arms are down they almost touch the floor, very bell shaped, use alot of fabric.

When I made my robe, I tough about large and long sleeve, but ended up making it smaller then that as it seams impracticable to have overlarge sleeves...
The jedi costume was made with the look in the mind, not the practicability. Mace's sleeves are a good example of that. Way too big for anyone to truly enjoy wearing them... at least in my opinion.

Yes, Ani, I have a photo on my PC at home (am on vacation now) that show how big the Ep II sleeves are. Ep I robe sleeves weren't so big. I have photos from FIDM that show them draped to the floor.

Ah, I missed those sleeves in Ep II as well? I'll have to go back and look for them. Mace just seems to have an extra large robe; it drags on the ground a bit, too. That robe must be just huge.
Now, those sleeves look great in action scenes, but they're not too practical for walking around with. But it's an interesting variation to see.

Mace's is my favorite robe. Those sleeves are great. I say the bigger the better. I have an Emperor's robe that I made before I signed up here, and it has sleeves just like Mace's, that hang almost to the floor when my hands are at my side. It's great fun to were. It makes you feel so regd., and elegant. The sleeves flow so nicely.
That much extra material does make the sleeves a bit heaver though. If you had a Wool Mace robe on all day. you'd probably gain some mussel mass on your arms. lol

Oh, Mace's sleeves look so wonderful. But I know that the fun would be tempered for me the first time I got them stuck in a door or stepped on or snagged something off a table. I have made a new robe that drags just a little bit on the floor. It could get stepped on, but I just had to try it out.

I found a good website that has Mace Windu robes to buy. I know I will be buying one soon, since I dress like him. They are a really good price, and they have other jedi robes on there as well. www.mystikmerchant.com

I've recently modified my robe sleeve to look like Mace Windu's, since I'm supposed to be his last apprentice and all...
Have a look: myscififan.startrek.com.my/gallery/displayimage.php?album=15&pos=7 Click on the pic to supersize it. Warning: HUGE pic! 56kers beware!
It just about reaches the floor when I have my hands down. Didn't have any porblem with it at all.
Now I can use my robe as a wizard's cloak as well...yay! ;D

The robe looks good! And your photographer took a few steps back, too. I thought about trying out sleeves like Mace's but I didn't want to hem them.

I' used to wearing that type of sleeve because it's very common in the period that my Medieval group does. I once did a gown in wool with huge wide sleeves like that and then trimmed them in a really wide faux fur border, they looked great, but were very heavy. For my Jedi robe, I prefer the straight sleeve, though mine are very wide, maybe 40 inch circumferance or there abouts. Plo, that does look really nice. On the subject of robes, I bought a bolt of nice heavy brushed brown flannel the other day, I feel a new Jedi robe...........
