What would be the absolute best type of wool fabric to get? I want the exact look like in the movies with the fuzzy finish.
I have seen on here Melton wool, Wool flannel, and wool silk. are favorites of some.
I found some material in a brown i liked here is what the description says not sure if it is too heavy or not?
"SUPREME QUALITY MELTON WOOL FABRIC. 58" TO 60" WIDTH. COLOR: BROWN. A thick to medium thick tightly woven wool with heavily brushed nap giving the fabric a smooth finish with no warp or weft yarns visable. Used for jackets, coats and blankets. Weight approx. 1 1/2 lbs per yard"

Where'd you find it? ?$? It sounds very nice. Melton is very warm, I wouldn't want to think about it today, it's 95f outside! YUCK

wow that's expensive, just a question but whats the fell of the fabric, like other wool or does it have a different feel to it (some wool does that) If anyone knows.

OK. Im either going to go with the melton wool or some brown fleece. What I was trying to get with the wool is perhapes I could wear it in warmer climate and not be sweating like a madman but if its going to be just as hot as fleece i will go with the fleece since it is cheaper. I have made robes out of leece before and loved it. It flows great drapes nice. It even resembles the fabric like in the film. I just figured wool will breathe better but i would assume its going to be just as hot if I had the fleece on as well.

Gaberdine was really nice for hot days. It is much cooler and lighter than felt and wears and flows nicely. Not to mention the color was dead on. I believe I paid 5.50 a yrd. for the gaberdine. My melton wool DID NOT come in today but as soon as it does I will post my opinion of it.

I have used gaberdine on my first robe. It does drape and flow nice I just dont like the material. It doesn't have that fuzz look like the wool and fleeces do. I will probably be going with fleece. I dont really wear the jedi costume that much, just for halloween, conventions and events. So I suppose it wouldn't matter. I just had a misconception wool would be a little bit cooler than fleece.

That is kinda why i am upgrading to Melton Wool. More screen like. May only wear it during halloween unless it is snowing at an outside convention. which is not likely.

At 1.5 pounds per yard, we've talking about minimum 12 pound robe. I'd think twice about that. One can find the right texture wool without going with Melton. Be patient. keep looking. It took me 2 years, searching weekly on line and in stores, to find the kind of wool I wanted.
