I'm leaning towrd making a Ep2 robe with tucks just to save fabric--of course it will be a very deep dark brown instead of Obi-Wans lighter brown. I wonder if that would matter. Otherwise I guess we'll do it without shoulder seams & more fabric. We're doing our 1st trial robe out of musling to correct anything from the pattern.

Basically, the shade of brown only matters if you're trying to do a "replica" of a particular characters costume, if you're doing your own Jedi thing, the shade is up to you. Are you trying to be Obi Wan Ep II? If not chose shade that you like, or can find.

Well, I do mine like this www.rebellegion.com/jedigarb/robepat2.jpgBe careful not to cut it too big, as someone has said, as then it will fall off the shoulders. Cut it small and if it's too small, it can be cut bigger. The hood gathers into the smaller neck opening.

Yes, use a shirt (preferably one the same size as what the person getting the robe will wear) that has a collar on it and measure the back along the collar from shouder seam to shoulder seam. It's really much smaller than you think.
That said, I deliberately make a wide back collar for the robe and then put in a couple of pleats in it (so that it's the size of the shirt collar) to add extra volume to the back of the robe. But only do that if your sewing machine can take it. Between wooly fabric, the gathered hood and a pleated robe, that's a lot of fabric to sew through. And then you have to finish off the seam between body and hood, too
