is anyone familiar with twill? how are the properties as far as robes go does it look good? it's either that or gabardine for the matertial.

I have a robe made out of cotton twill. I suppose there is also wool twill or silk twill or other kinds of twills. I've only looked at the cotton.
As far as the weave goes, it looks fine for a robe. It has a smoother texture than a coarser weave, but I think it looks fine. It is stiffer and wrinkles more than my woolly robe, but the stiffness is good for carrying lightsaber blades in it (I have a long, skinny pocket for them sewn into the inside facing). Cotton or a cotton blend is better for warmer weather, too.

I like it, have used it quite a lot, holds up well, flows well when cut properly.
