I was looking at TPM, and it really looks like Qui-gon and Obi-wans' robes are cut differently. Qui-gon's is more straigth up and down and doesn't quite touch the ground; it makes him look even taller than he is. Obt-wan's is fuller, spreads outward and touches the ground. And Mace Windu's robe is very full just drags along the ground in ATOC.
It's nice to see some variation; it leaves more room to play in.

There are several robe shapes between the Ep I & Ep II films, there are also long & short, with & w/out sleeves.

I really like the shoulder tucks in Obi-Wan's EPII robe. I added them on my most recent robe and they came out great!

If I can either find the right wool melton fabric or someone sends me an already built robe*whichever is cheaper.) I'l probably try a full sleeved robe, and remove the sleeves off my light weight one and use it for summer.
I'm also looking for a lush heavy silk fabric to make a dress robe from.( not shimmery silk or silk noil.)

Obi-wan's robe has shoulder tucks in Ep II. **looking at DVD** I hadn't noticed! Hmmmm, it does make him look a little bit like he has shoulder pads--another reason to like Jedi costumes, no shoulder pads. Looks fine on Obi-wan, but I'm not sure it would be all that great on me. I don't think Mace has them.
One thing that the shoulder tucks do is give you a lot more latitude on tailoring your robe or tunic. All you do when cutting the fabric is err on the side of the sleeves being too long. It they turn out too long, add shoulder tucks.
