The rubies robe is ok if you really aren't going for authenticity, but it's hood is what is really it's shortfall. It looks as if someone just dropped a towel over your head and isnt nearly big enough. Definetely not worth 50 bucks. Spend 80 more and get a Ferarri instead of a volkswagon. But I can vouch for Mystik Merchant as I just recieved mine today, and woooooo, is it nice! And they really do care, in fact she called me just to confirm the measuements and did advise me to make sure. Not to mention a nice little chat about robes, and costuming in general. Just like cutting hair, you never want to go too short as you can always cut more if it's not to your liking, and likewise with the robe you can always hem it shorter if it's too long. Im very satisfied with it, even my boss who's not even into Star Wars was impressed when she seen it on me. I think she was even inspired to do a costume herself(Princess Leia) and join me in my quest.

tip : go to Wal Mart and buy the obligatory 'plus size' costume, which every Wal Mart carries, every year for $19: the 3XL "religious monk" robe
("fits a man 275 lbs")
split the monk costume up the middle with a sharp pair of scissors so its open in the middle --> now its a robe.
in fact now its the SAME robe that Rubies sells as a Jedi costume with the (expensive) Lucasfilm liscence (hehe) (same material; same hood; etc)
the only difference between the "monk smock" and the "jedi robe", is the monk smock is joined at the front so its more like, kind of a "bedshirt" design.
--> you can solve that with a pair of scissors and open it up in the front to make it into a "robe".

I can not sew, so instead of sewing a robe I bought one at www.mystikmerchant.com/ it maybe to pricey for some but if you can afford it I suggest picking one up. I completely love my robe and it flows like it should. The are custom made and shipps really quick. I also purchased my robe from MystikMerchant. I agree, they provide fast service, and a quality product.

I also have a MystikMerchant robe--niiiiiccceeee, I love it. My only prob with it was after the measurements with boots on, for me it was tooo long, I had to hem it up so I wouldn't trip on it. It folds well for travel & after being in a suitcase it has almost no wrinkles. But it's a drycleaner robe--I asked Mystik if I could wash it---their answer was a definite NO.

Yep, I think mine came out a bit long also. She stressed it to me on the phone that it's way better to be long than short. You can always hem up, but you cant lengthen it if it's too short. I think I should have stuck to my initial fingertip to fingertip measurement cause I think my sleeves are way too long. But it's no biggie, at least there too I can have it hemmed up some. But yep, it's awesome at any rate and makes the Rubies thing seem like a bath towel. ( Yes I had bought one, a week or two before I discovered what a real robe was supposed to be, hehe, I looked rediculus) Now I look "Mystik"!! I can hardly wait to show ya, but not until the circle is complete!

(as per Obiwan EP2 and/or anakin EP3) the pleats will be covered by the hood when you're wearing the robe; they make the robe fit better in the shoulders without losing any bulk in the body*... ....and it will (also) reduce the length of the sleeves by about 2 inches, per shoulder pleat. *(with 2 of these "shoulder pleats" on each side of the neck, my robe fits like a size 42 jacket @ the shoulders. but it still has an 8 foot circumference of farbic @ the floor. heh) stitch sparingly, by hand, and you can always remove them later
