Ekk! I hope it wasn't an important disk.

Yes, actually it was. It was the minutes of a national committee meeting that I had travelled all the way across the country to attend. It was a hard lesson.
To bring this diversion into OT back to topic.....the lesson would be not to use a magnet to close your cloak if you're going to have anything like a disk or credit card in a chest pocket. I think a wallet in your pants pocket would be safe.

I don't own anything with a chest pocket except for one shirt, and I never use the pocket anyway, so I suppose I'm safe.

They did have them closed with a closer for that scene and Luke in ROTJ had his closed too briefly. Personal preference.........hide the closer and rock on.......

I am hoping someone will be able to post of pic of the closure method that they used...especially those of you who used a hook and eye closure.
Thanks, TND

Great minds think alike.....I've needed to sew them on so rushed to the sewing room to do so and then photograph....so look to my edit, above.

that looks great...you should add it to your tutorials! It's an important part that not everyone includes.

Wow, I've never seen a hook and eye from Dritz that was THAT big before. I'll have to look for some.
Interesting note about closure....the last robe I made was cotton twill with a very wide front facing on both edges. After I got it done I discovered that I could stand and walk around a bit with the front closed and it would stay in place, especially if my arms are folded in front of me Jedi-style. So, I ended up not putting a closure on it at all.

Kai, How does it look when it's open? How do you sew it so you cant see the stitches in front when it's closed?
Thanks, TND

Thats basically what I did with mine, except I have 2 slightly smaller ones about an inch apart on the collar area. My robe is a bdark brown wool so even when my robe is open like it normally is you cant see them anyway as they colours match so well. As for sewing so the stitching cant be seen from the front you just dont go all the way through the material, as there are several layers on the collar area when its turned under and stitched to the hide the seam anyway its really easy to do. Xana can probably tell you the technical name for that type of stitch , tack stitch maybe ? Sewn on by hand anyway.

Yes, i use those hook & eyes as well, they're mostly used on fur coats or very heavy garments. I just call them hidden stiches. Didn't know dritz made them in pkgs, I usually get them in bulk here, but they are loose, not packed.

The one thing I didn't like is that it is visible with the robe open. I may take Jeffrek's idea and use a smaller hook/eye and hide it in the gathering of the hood.
The stitches aren't seen because the hook/eye are stitched to the robe facing (the edge that's turned inside to give a finished edge to the outside of the robe).
