I am in the process of making my robes, but am at a stand still as far as material goes. What is a good material besides wool to make robes out of? I would like to keep the cost as low as posible if I can. HELP

I made one of mine out of a relatively heavy cotton, either twill or duck will work well, and both are drapey, so they flow well, try and find the fabric in a 60" width, if it's very warm where you are, you can use a lighter weight of cotton like broadcloth. You can also use linen, either medium or heavy is best, but make sure you wash, DRY and then press it before using it, as it is quite prone to shrinkage. If it's cold where you are, polartec type fleece is good, and flows well. As to cost, you will need from six to eight yards to do a really flowy robe, but they are so impressive that an extra yard or two of fabric really makes a difference. I usually get what I'm looking for for about $5 to $6 a yard. If that's not possible near you, or you can't find the colour you want Schph posted a web site for fabrics that she used a while back, or I can give you the source of my fabric, they'll ship it to you if you're not from here. Hope that was some help.

The fabric I bought was a cotton/linen blend...medium weight....$5.99 per yard...shipped free...
The site is fabric.com.....I stink at links...so just go to your search engine and try the "fabric.com"...it should send you to the right place... ;D
A lot of folks have had good luck at their nearby WalMart...My Walmart usually has diddly....that is why I went on-line...
and yes....I washed the whole wad of fabric in hot water twice before cutting.....I don't have a clothes dryer...so it just air dried....

I am also checking out a muslin that they have for sale there at only $1.99 a yard ...I may use that to re-do my light version of my tunic...
.it would be no good for a robe...but if you are looking for tunic material, it may be an option....
