I've made the original post in the Lights Saber Action forums
Greetings all, some friends of mine here and members of my Fan Force were sujjesting that once I am a for sure to go at Dragoncon I see if the Assembly would like to have a Lightsaber class demo done. Simply 8 basic cuts and how to put them into a routine. Thisis not my call to make but I thought I would ask what members thought of thre idea.
If it does happen I know some will attend that have had previous expereince or other forms. I will not say that what I teach is the only way I only ask that if I am able to do a fun class that people can watch and our members can take part in that the method I use is respected and all safety rules followed.
Any thoughts from members or the Council?, neat idea?, no too risky please be frank. I'm still working on the pasport yet so my attendance is still not 100 percent but if that goes through fine I'l be there, as I said nothing fancy.

If you're proposing this as part of the Matters of the Force programming, it might be too late as MOTF is deep into programming already. The Council has requested 2 panel times and the organizer (Cathy) isn't yet sure she can give us the second one.
Council is discussing....

When would you know for certain that you'd be attending Dragon*Con?

within a month or two tops, it's the passport request that is slowing things down.
even if it can't be an official pannel there's no reason that a nearby area can't be used for some fun Lightsaber training

By the time you know you'll be there, it will definitely be too late to add a panel. And I would be very concerned about having a demo in an open area. Almost all areas are FULL of people all the time. 10's of thousands of people attend D*Con. That was one thing that bothered me about it...it's hard to even move around sometimes!
However, here's Leda's suggestion and we think it would work...
You could do a short segment within our panel (jedi costuming, probably on Monday) about looking like a Jedi while wearing your costume... posing, posture/stance, holding the saber, basic strikes, etc. It would be fun and interactive. The lightsaber is a part of the Jedi costume, and knowing how to weild it is as important as knowing how to wear you costume properly. It just completes the look.
The segment could be at the end, and the making of the costume would lead into it... like, "Now that you have a great costume, it's time to act like a jedi," and so on...
edit Then keep this idea in mind for next year's (2008) second panel!
