I'm in for that, QKJ. All those duel videos are put together one move at a time. Personally I'm rather weak on the spins, twirls and acrobatic moves, but I'm no slouch on fundamental dodging, striking, and blocking techniques. I think I could contribute as well as learn a thing or two. ;D ~ Vonnor p.s. jeez man, you wanna bum a cap and a couple periods for that previous post? I'll hook you up np.

I think it's a nice idea. Some minor problems that pop to my mind are these. If your having a forum like that you have to have a disclaimer first off as MR even says it's sabers are not for fighting..............yeah right I bought it so it can sit on my desk. But also that anyone using the stikes parries lunges etc from the site are responcable for their own actions. Also would this be for discussing or an actual ciriculum for using them to duel in freestyle or 'planned' sessions. I'm really into this idea, not just as a choreographer but as a fan. However if were gonna have these things, everyone teaches differently so there would would have to be a Jedi Assembly stlye used when using them at JA events. Ya don't wanna have people from say My local Fan Force dueling with one of you guys and the speeds and styles are different and a MR gets broken or someone gets hurt. If it's for discussion then hey go for it, but if it's ultimate goal is to host classes then you may wish to consider some of these. I posted simply because of other stories and other expereinces I have had both on set and with other groups , medieval and fantasy related when it coems to these things. Thanks

GREAT IDEA!! I'd enjoy dressing up like a Jedi more if I could handle the saber better -- right now I fight like a girl.

Only problem I can see coming is people giving bad advice. I'm not pointing fingers, because I'm not talking about anyone in particular. It does happen though. Following bad advice in martial things can lead to some bad situations. So, I'm just saying ahead of time: I'm not going to nit-pick or harrass, but don't be offended if I point out mistakes.

That's one of the issues I have with starting a forum like that. Many people feel strongly about their particular training or style or whatever, but just because you disagree with a method, doesn't mean it is bad or wrong. There are several systems of stage combat in practice, and we would consider starting a forum to learn about them, and to share ideas in a frindly manner, not to argue which one is right or wrong. That is a personal preference.

Agreed, it it would be rude to point out errors made by others if they do match what you would perhaps try to do. There are many here who train Martial wise, some with real expereince in stage combat for films or t.v, others in the Dojo, others both. Hence why a basic system, such as the 8 basic cuts or parries should be thought upon, advice sought from those are experinced in these areas and then move forward from there. Each person will have a style and you have to adapt that style to the person or rather they have to find their niche in it.

I am trying to gather people in my area to start doing staged saber fights, so this kind of forum can be a plus, but I also think I can get most of the knowledge I need from websites instead of forums... so I don't believe it is mandatory.
This said, I'd like the advise of pros like Ky-Wan on the matter.
There are pros and cons, and I trust the council on that decision.

Where it is a cool idea....I think that things of the nature of lightsaber dueling is something that should be done in person..
with instructers who have formal training...
The reality is that the best dueling matches that we saw on screen are ones that were endlessly rehearsed...and...for that...well...you need to be one on one...
