Sith costume group...sure...why not... the only problem is...there really are very few Sith costumes that are recognized as part of the Star Wars sagas.....or at least that is how I would view it...
Darth Maul Darth Bane Dooku Sidious Darth Vader (pre-suit)
I have a black Jedi costume in the back of my mind too....but just changing all of the browns and tans over to black would not necessarily make it a recognizeable "Sith" costume...in the most strict terms?

I think the idea behind a sith-oriented organisation isn't to have canon-only sith costumes... because (as you said) there aren't a lot. I wouldn't even include Bane as a formal canon costume, the same way the expanded universe jedi costumes are often unwelcomed to canon events.
on another hand, there IS place for all kind of dark Force users to be represented. Several members of the Jedi Assembly have extra costumes, and often its a Dark Jedi, a Fallen Jedi, a Sith-ish lord or some exotic Force User...
I would think the most popular of those costume would be Mara Jade.
Now, if you look carefully, there isn't place in the 501st for any non-canon sith lord, even less other categories of Dark Side users. Being that the Rebel Legion is the good guys, you have even less latitude for that aspect of costuming. If you turn over to the Jedi costuming community, the Jedi Assembly is clearly a light-side prequel JEDI group, with all its implication in color discretion.
Therefore, extravagenza Jedi, Fallen ones, dark ones are not represented at all... even if there is quite a lot of people to like representing this personna.
A Sith costuming group need to take that into account - not purely sith, but Dark Side oriented.

The shroud of the dark side has fallen. Begun, the Sith costuming group has!

olos has a point there, i must admit Yes, I agree. Like Leda said, most groups are founded to suit the needs of the founding memebrs because they can't get what they want anywhere else. I think a Sith club is a cool idea. Now I have someplace to post my picture, once I take some good ones. We didn't start so much for recognition but for ourselves. We wanted to be like movie Jedi and present that. It just turned out to be more................. ;D

Even if I get around to doing my "Sith" variation... I doubt that I would join a group that has that costume because the reality is that costume doesn't technically exist in the Star Wars Universe that I would like to travel in....the movies, screenplays, radio dramas, and Clone Wars cartoons.....
Once again...it all boils down to where do you want to go with your Sith costume?
You don't need to be part of any group to wear them to Cons and such....it's a free country...you can wear it anywhere you want... but ...if you seek to wear them to more formal events....I don't think that will happen.....
No one here wants to stifle anyone's creativity...but TJA's stuggles for respect still continue now....and putting TJA's name anywhere near this group would be counter-productive to what we have struggled to do....even if it was noted that this group was an "outgrowth" of TJA....I don't think that "outgrowth" would be a proper term to use....and I for one, am not comfortable with it. If I do actually get around to my black "Sith-like" costume...I don't intend to mention anything about TJA while wearing it. So that you don't think I am trying to be cruel...elitist..or anything else....I just want you to know that I speak with a little experience behind me..
...here is a list of the "missions" that I have been on....the only reason I have been able to be so active and do so much is because there is respect for the screen accurate costumes....and I am sure that I have forgotten many of the "missions" that I have done....

I could have not been able to do much of these without a good quality and screen accurate costume....I have 3 events coming up in the next week alone....
So.... again... Where do you want to go with your costumes?

That's a good question for the Dark group to consider. My impression of the idea was the term Sith" being used as an umbrella term for all those thing Olos mentioned. And the name of the group describes just that.
I'm sure the group will have their cannon costumes as well... Vader, Maul... etc. Sometimes events are not what inspires one to join a club. It wasn't for me. I just wanted to hang with fellow costumers, and like minded people. Not everyone is "event driven".
But they will have to speak for themselves.

Precisely right...in a manner of speaking... If one wants to do a costume just to hang out.... and I have one of those too.... then do it...
All I am trying to say is that TJA was formed intially for the purpose of being included in events and to be taken seriously as a costume group...
The sith group is a good idea for laid back....do your own thing...and have fun....but that was not why TJA was formed...at least I remember the discussions right after CII regarding cranking up the quality of our costumes so that we could figure prominently in LFL plans.. Please feel free to correct me if I have mis-understood that....

Need to be mentionned, the Dark Side of the force seams to be divided... some former TDA members are having an alternate association created, with an already open website. You guys might want to give a look at that thedarkempire.awardspace.com/Index.htmI personally don't believe in "yet another sith club" - its rather unserious and both associations are simply weaker because of that.

as myself one of the TDA council member, I try to stay nutral. I give time to the TJA & TDA. I just think some members or exmembers take it a bit too personnal and want to make some useless vandetta. In all clubs there is some conflicts and problems. The only thing i found very sad is the concept copying. And the website look more like something done fastfast

although i'm no council member, i have hope for TDA. perhaps my first costume with be of jedi attire, but i will still spend time with the sith. its something that is needed, and should be addressed. innovation is the key, if you offer something new, people might like it, then again some will hate it, but that is natural. in the meantime, i'll try to help jinn and the sith advance any way i can.

SOmetimes all a group wants to do is costume and shares tips and ideas on how to make sith gear and have fun doing it. I've read the mission statement and that's exactly what they'er wanting to do.No mention of being event driven. Only sharing ideas like our group does and have fun costumes.

exactly jauzmynn....like our mission statement says The Dark Alliance is a world-wide costuming organization, made by Star Wars costumers for Star Wars costumers. It is our mission to complete the Star Wars costuming genre by creating screen, novel, comic and video game accurate sith and dark jedi costumes and props, for the enjoyment of others and ourselves. The Dark Alliance wants costume and prop makers of all skill levels to share their knowledge with interested persons.
