i dont know where the to turn to. i see countless pics of people with these cool starwars outfits of all kinds, i mean all over to. i see tons of pics of fancy dancy costumes made that looks like they could of been in the movies themselves, yet i CANNOT get any help of any kind in making one of myown!!!!!!! what i want to do is make an anakin sky. from e3 to perfection. i searched and searched all over for info, found lots of pics of course but not one peice of advice other than "look in fabric shops" for something i have no idea what to look for. just plain brown isnt good enough, ppl arnt tellin me what kind of fabric they used , etc....of course theres already made costumes that looks something that's worse than a plain sheet over your face and its being pawned off as a anakin sk. outfit, blah blah...and stuff that is for kids which is also premade which is pure crud.... howd the heck did all these ppl make these things and i cant even find one ounce of fabric to start with? WTF?? where else can i look? any sources or ideas??

Well first of all, there's no need to panic... you've come to the right place! Our costuming threads are chock full of info on what to use and where to look for it. Also finding fabric depends alot on your location as well. Currently, one of our members is trying to place an order for Anakin RotS fabric. See here: apfoister.proboards9.com/index.cgi?board=TaP&action=display&n=1&thread=910 He's placing the order very soon so contact him if you want in. Personally I am in the NYC area so I can go shopping in the garment district for fabric... sometimes I find, sometimes I don't... depends on the season. Other fabric stores run product seasonally as well, like Jo-annes Fabrics and the Rag Shop, and Walmart. There's also Hanc*ck fabrics, but there's no store near me. I sometimes have luck with the website www.fabric.com but since I'm bad with purchasing fabric by name, I usually like to see it before I buy it. I lucked out recently there, found cotton crinkle gauze (this material works great for Obi-Wan's tunic, and for Anakin's if you can find it dark enough) in an assortment of browns, but I just tried to buy some more and it seems to be sold out. So read through the costuming threads, ask questions... Help is here!

Greetings DarkJedi and Welcome to the boards. There is a lot of info here. Can you sew? If not, do you have somebody that will help you? As Leda has said, most of what you need to know will be found in the Costume forums and Prop forums, please direct your questions there so that they can be found and answered in a timely manner. If you are in the NY Metro area, you would be welcome to shop for fabrics with us on our periodic fabric hunts. we have lots of places that are good, and some will give us discounts because we are good customers. It would seem that the censor is disabled at the moment, we do ask that you please watch the language as some of our message board members are quite young and we are Jedi after all.

yes nova, i found a skilled seamstress in my area. she went and searched for the right fabrics at some major places here in florida, joanns, calico corners, etc... she like myself, is one for extreme detail and she couldnt locate any fabric to match. she did say that the tunic is a gauze like material and the robe is some sort of oriental imported wool....diff than whats here in the us.......argggggggggggg

Sent you a PM, I'm not the one you seek in that dept. As for the fabric, I have a feeling that the Anakin and ObiWan might have been small custom milled jobs, LFM can affoerd that. Primrodo has a close looking find that he's having custom dyed, not to expensive, as for the robes, the originals were made from the wool of British Army blankets, so more likely Scottish wool than oriental, but might be a tad warm down there in that lovely hot, humid Florida weather. But you're wearing it, I have never tried to be any Jedi other than the one that I am, Nova Darklighter, I'd look a bit silly trying to be a young 6ft guy named Anakin, it's the same reason that I never got into doing Stormtrooper armor, I'm a little short to be............I guess you could say I'm vertically challenged.

Welcome to the Assembly.
You set a high standard for yourself and your costume, which is a good thing.
However, as a wise friend once said, "do not let the perfect be the enemy of the good".
Our costumes are always a work in progress. It took me 2 years to find wool at the right price that was acceptable for my first Jedi robe.
There is a member of another group here in my area of whom I have known for 2 or 3 years. He too is working on a replica Anakin costume. While he works toward that goal, he has missed many many costume events as he still has no costume. The point I'm making is to suggest you make a good, standard Jedi costume so you can join in events and meet others in your area WHILE you work toward your goal.

Indeed...I have made and had made 7 tunic sets (since 1999), 3 robes and still have not been 100% happy....I continue to search for just the right fabric... but in the meantime...I have had a ball with the costumes that I do have...

What? The censor is on vacation?
-- I bought a bunch of fabrics scraps at Hanthingy Fabric today. --
Hmmm, I guess it's back.
Anyway, yes, it's a good idea to try out a standard Jedi costume first; work out the kinks, wear Jedi it a few places. Then do the screen-acurate Anakin.

thanks all, your words and advice are much appreciated.... however, im having a bit of a problem now though, with this whole "dark" issue thing. if its ok for one memb. to have dark in her/his name, why isnt it good for me? (novaDARKlighter) what does one have to do around here to call a "council meeting" if you will? i wanna know why, and being a moderater isnt an answer either

As I posted in your selling thread to a greater extent, The reason that Darklighter is permitted is that it indicates a bringing of light to the darkness & it is a common use name in the SW universe by characters of the lightside such as 1. Biggs Darklighter (rebel pilot, ANH) and a Jedi character in a novel I haven't read. I might add, that it is not in any way, shape or form that I know of connected to being a Sith. There is further in the post on your other thread.
