Aleia woke up and rolled over, taking her right hand to pull back the hair out of her eyes. Stiffiling a yawn she blinked and remembered where she was. A smile spread across her face as she streached and sat up. The blankets falling down to her waist as the warmth pooled out.
I'm really here! It wasn't a dream.
She thought, almost feeling silly. Of course it was real. She was here and was going to be a Jedi one day. The young girl launched herself out of bed and wandered what time it was. Going to her small pack where she kept a watch she checked the time. It was barly after six in the morning. Aleia yawned but strangly felt refreshed. Deciding she might as well get up and get goign seeign as she didn't know what the schedule was goign to be. She quickly dressed and admired the uniform of the Jedi. It was comfrtable and fitted her like a glove.
As she got out into the hall she noticed she wasn't the only one up. There were a few more jedi students comming out of their rooms. All heading towards the mess hall. In good mood she follwed the group but didn't talk to them. One girl noticed her and gave her a smile and nod. It would still take time for her to adjust and she didn't know what much to do. Her stomach growling she ventured in the room and got her breakfast. Eating quickly she cleared her tray and took it to the cleaning droid and headed outside. Her footsteps tapped lighty as she streached once more. Stepping out into the area as sht e orange glow of the sun was rising to warm the air and signal life for the day to begin.
"Beautiful.."
She breathed to herself and headed out towards the edge of the grounds where she remembered Odon telling her to meet him the next morning.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", he spoke to her, as he materialized out of the morning mist, "it can also be very dangerous as well". The Ossian forest was a maze of color and vibrancy, but not the benign forest of a century before.
"When the Yuuzhan Vong invaded they began their process of worldshaping. Luckily, Ossus was not as hard hit as other planets, and she was able to recover, but the species the Vong left behind still thrive. Unlike other planets, we did not wish to uproot them, afterall they are both beautiful, but a vivid reminder of what complaceny can bring".
He walked forward to the edge of the forest, where a small stream flowed. He pointed to several submerged life forms that somehow did not fit. "The Gnullith is a small, star-shaped creature, which latches onto the mouth area of its host, sending a long, central tendril down the throat and attaching it there. The tendril acts as an oxygen filter, and allows the warrior to breathe while underwater or in toxic environments".
As they stood their, they heard a loud vibration, which began to grow in crescendo. Odon took note of its source, and pointed to the far side of the stream.
"Those are descendents of what were once Sentinel Beetles, that were engineered by the Yuuzhan Vong for use in their bio-ships, vehicles, and structures. They are bred in huge numbers, with their purpose being to beat their wings furiously when an intruder is encountered. The wing-song itself, that this flapping creates, alerts the Yuuzhan Vong to the intruder's presence. They roam freely on the lush frorest floor. The point is my young Padawan, is that this forest is no longer safe. It is a living, breathing entity, and with the addition of the Vong horticulture and lifeforms, it is now very deadly to any who do not respect it".
He glanced at her knowingly. "Especially to those who must venture within".

Aleia knew a little of the Vong. Not many people didn't sense the destruction they did was across the universe. She watched in ernest as he pointed out the things that were left as a reminder of the past. The young girl was intrested.
"Gnullith.. do.. do the Jedi or others actually use them?"
Her eyes opened wide as she couldn't comprehend having something like that go down her throat. Now when he pointed to the other creatures she found those kinda scary. But they were still living creatures and she was still stairing at them when she heard his last words.
"Especially to those who must venture within".
Aleia looked up to him. Her eyes giving a questionable look as she straightened herself before asking the question he knew she would ask.
"Master.. are.. are we going in there?"

"Some do, while others prefer rebreathers in the traditional man made sense", he pointed out to the young girl. "It is a matter of preference so to speak". The morning was bright, and the skies clear, a rarity during the spring months. It was time to give her the answers she needed.
"You are, I have other duties to attend to. You know little of the practicalities of the Force, but that does not matter at this stage in your development. You must first learn to be in tune with its energy, and what better way to accomplish that than to commune with nature itself, as it is all living things that create the Force".
He did not smile, nor did he frown. This was serious business, and he treated it as such. "There is an old abandoned temple, some fifteen miles from here. It is a long journey, and one that must be taken by the light of day. After dark, all manner of predators come out to hunt. It would not be wise to be caught out after dusk".
That should shake her up, which was his intent. "In your pack you have several glowrods, firesticks, and a motion detector. It is up to you to find your own sustenance. If you reach the Temple, it will provide you shelter, but I would suggest securing it from any potential dangers. The Vong creatures you have seen are relatively harmless, but there are more dangerous ones about".
If she was not scared, then she was not human. Part of the exercise was not just to learn how to connect with the Living Force, but to learn self reliance, and to conquer ones own fear.
"There is a small stream near the temple, which will provide water, but whatever you do, do not go into the lower levels. There are things their that not even a seasoned Knight would risk. Focus on your tasks. Learn to sense the connection between living and mystical, and once you begin to grasp that rudimentary concept, then you will return to the Praxeum".
Without any fanfare, he motioned her forward, speaking the only words that were relevant to a Jedi.
"May the Force be with you".

She thought he was joking at first. Going out there by herself?! The fear showed in her eyes as he told her she had to do it. fifteen miles was a long hike but it also could be done. The sun was barly in the sky and Aleia did know she had made longer hikes in her life from her past. The items in her pack would help but she had no weapons. What if she got caught out in the darkness?
No.. don't think of that..
The girl told herself as she nodded to the Jedi Master.
sense the connection between living and mystical? How am I going to know that?
Again she shook her head. It was obvious Odon knew she was ready and capable to do this. Else he wouldn't have said for her to venture out there. Strange how only two days of being here she was being thrown into the water. Sink or Swim it was her decision now.
"May the Force be with you".
She echoed back and swung the pack over her shoudlers. A cool wind blew up as she took a deep breath and started to enter into the woods..... "How the heck do I even know I am going in the right direction?"
Aleia mutterd a couple hours later. Stepping on the raw earth she crunched dead leaves and branches. Sweat beaded her forhead as the sun started to heat the area's. Thus so far all she had seen were a few bugs and annoying pests.
"I need to calm down.. I can do this..."
Pulling a branch out of the way she closed her eyes and took in a few deep breaths to calm down. Taking in the rich smells she felt her annoyance ceased and for a moment she thought she could feel something.
Not sure what it was as the moment flared and vanished she opened her eyes and started forward once more. Something told her to change her course and so she headed North West and got no farther when she heard movement in the area around her.
Aleia froze, feeling her fear rise as the warnings that Odon told her rushed up. She had visions of horriable monsters comming out of the underbrush and with no weapons all she could do was run and rely on instincts. Slowling her breathing she took another step foward. Wahtever was out there she would have to face. It was still daylight and she had no intention of being out in the open at dusk.
Another step and because of her carlessness she snapped a twig. The Large crack seemed to echo and spead out louder then normal. The sound of whatever it was got closer and somethign in her guy told the girl to duck by the large tree that was nearby. No sooner then she did then the crature came out from the right side. Aleia froze. A Yuuzhan Vong!
Odon didn't tell me there were Actual Vong out here!
Even though the war was over and they were supposadly not a threat Aleia knew this one was a danger. The Vong stopped and looked around and Aleia held her breath hoping he wouldn't see her. Years of running from scum back where she grew up was kicking in.
Not moving any part of her body she hoped the earth toned colors would easily blend in. Never in her young life did she expect to even see the Vong. She thought they were all gone. The Vongs grey skin made her feel sick. She noted the black hair on his head. Though hardly any that he had.
The Yuuzhan Vong looked now over in her direction and took a step closer. He had no ears that she could see against his ridge like head. Nor could she see anything of what she considered a normal nose.
Dosen't he know the Jedi are on this world?
Either way it didn't matter. SOmethign told her this one was here for some other reason. If there was one there was probably a few others. Looking down by her feet she saw a large rock. No bigger then her fists she had an idea. Bending down so very slowly she reached for the stone. Keeping her eyes on the Vong as the creature seemed to sniff the air for something.
Her right hand wrapped around the rock and as she stood she twisted her body around. Keeping her feet planted to not make a sound she rose her right hand and chucked the stone in the direction she had just came. It made an impressive sound. Or so it seemed as a flurry of movemtn came from that area. The Vong was almost on top of her when his he froze from the sound. Aleia was gratefull the tree she was hiding by was large enough to conceal most of her body as she pressed her back against it.
Please.. go..
She prayed to herself and closed her eyes. Time seeming to slow and last forever as she waited to be discovered. After a few moments though the Vong moved. Rounding the other side of the tree and seemed to vanish. Not even looking back to where the girl was. Aleia opened her eyes and let her weight pull her down to the ground. She would wait for a little while just in case he would return....

Humans were so arrogant, but they had defeated the Yuuzhan Vong a century or so before. No, that was incorrect, the Vong Caste system had imploded when Supreme Overlord Shimmra, who drove his followers here to the galaxy beyond their own, by a vision from the God's in the eighth cortex.
It had been a fraud perpetuated by Shimmra.
There were no Gods, and that realization alone had broken down their heirarchy and societal system. Shamed Ones rose against thier Master's. The Priests no longer had any credibility, and the warriors fought for something that was nothing more than a clever lie. In their confusion, the New Republic had become victorious, but not because they had bested the sons of Yun Yuuzhan.
What happened in the aftermath was akin to civil war, as some of his people went to live on the living planet, while others fought back, and kept the resistance alive, but without purpose, they soon capitulated, or fled to the outer rim systems,
He was born from the Domain of Jummane. His own name, Dilong, meant son of the fiery Dragon Emperor. He should have been in line to the throne, instead, because of his ancestors heresy, he was seen as vile by those on Zenoma Sekot, and an outcast by the clans who still adhered to the old ways.
He had been exiled to Ossus, because like those creatures here, he was different. He could sense living life, and move small objects with ease. He did not know what he was, but he was not Yuuzhan Vong. If the God's had ever existed, they would excoriate him and cast him down as one of the Shamed.
For six months he had lived on planet, watching and observing, but still lacking the confidence to seek out those who had once been sworn enemies.
Now, one of their young ones had stumbled upon his lair, and he sniffed the air in search for her. The stone object had been a weak attempt, but he did not intend to kill her, or anyone. He only wanted to understand his destiny, and maybe, just maybe, this infidel could help him.
For now, he would keep to shadow, and follow her, using the Sentinel Beetles to keep close tabs. When the time was right, he would confront her, and hopefully, not be forced to kill her.

Time had seemed to speed up once more. ALeia waited and when the Vong didn't return she thought he was gone. With a relaxed sigh she had moved from her spot and continued onward. Almost running as she had to make up the meters she should had already covered. Taking her right hand she pushed her hair out of the way and felt the dampness from the heat that surrounded her.
"Wonderfull"
She breathed and then felt her stomach begin to grumble. Relization hit her that it was probably around noon for lunch. Yet she didn't know anything about the plants here and was afarid to pick anything that could be poisionous. So she kept moving, picking up speed as she jumped over a fallen log and landed. A few birds were startled and called their anger out as she left them in peace.
If I don't find food soon I'm going to be hurting later..
Aleia knew that if sh lost her strength she would also lose her clearer thoughts. Those from past expeirences had ended up in disaster. She had her scar from one drapped across her left shoulder down to her back to prove it. Putting that behind her she slowed and begain to look around at bushes that looked animal eaten. Those would probably be safer to eat if the creatures around there had been chewing on them.
Now she wasn't a wildlife expert but she had read that somewhere. Also she knew to stay away from fruits that were brightly colored. Not that all were dangerous, but out here.. one had to be carefull. Her patience was pulling off as she slowed down. Her brown outter tunic caught against a small branch as if it were tugging against her. Scanning her green eyes down she noticed a small plantlike bush. The leaves slighty chewed off but deeper inside one could catch the glimps of a few fruit. They were a dull red as she bent to the knee and started to reach inward. Only then to have her hand be struck by a long sticky thing.
Aleia stiffeled a gasp and pulled. The thing was huge and resembled a tongue. Yet the girl didn't hurt it as she pulled back and it let go. She blinked and waited and then she looked up to see a Tolip.

The strange frog didn't move from it's perch as Aleia had fallen back against the ground. Scrapping her arm on somethign she couldn't see she hissed in slight pain and looked down. A small thin line of blood began to seep from the wound.
"d**n.."
She whispered, reaching down against the edge of her tunic she tore part of it off. The sound of tearing cloth was heard and she quickly wrapped her arm up to stop the bleeding. Not wanting to take the chance of infection, or to attract any unwanted attention she got up and left the area, heading back into the direction that she hoped was right to get to the temple.
Her stomach yelling at her, the young women pushed the thought asside. She remembered the days she had gone without anything. This would be nothing even if she didn't like it.
The wound nagged at her and Aleia, began to wonder if it was in fact going to become infected.God, am I even goign in the right direction? Was Master Odon even sure I could do this? Letting out a heavey sigh she slung her pack over to her other shoulder. Still she didn't slow down and kept pushing forward.
The day was starting to wear down and Aleia's stomach was really starting to scream at her. The young female still ignored it. Not wanting to take another chane in the wooded area. However, she was getting very thirsty but there wasn't anything around. She frowned, stepping over a large pile of rocks that seemed to have been collected somehow. Aleia moved quickly just in case it was a marker for someone.
"Or something.."
She finished the thought outloud. Head looking up she could see that the sun was now starting to set. Licking her lip she hurried at a dead run. The wooded area was starting to make more sounds then it was before.
"Great.."
Aleia about tripped over a tree root that was sticking up partially from the ground. Waiving her arms to balance herself she managed to not fall and then stopped. Straining her ear she could have sworn she had heard the sound of running water. Aleia closed her eyes and strained her hearing. Pushing past all the other sounds she listened deeper. Harder then she had before. Yes! There it was.. the sound of running water.
"Master Odon said there was a stream near the temple!"
Opening her eyes she hurried towards the rushing sound. Drivin by thirst and the need to make in inside before nightfall she didn't pay attention. A great screech was heard, forcing a shiver to run down her spine. More calls came and as her green eyes looked up she dropped her jaw. About half a dozen Ravenok's were swooping down towards her. Aleia screamed not knowing if they were dangerous or not. Then again, large birds comming at her was enough to make her pick up her feet and run.
She felt the low swoop and talon's of the nearest bird reach for her shoulders. Aleia forced herself to fall to the ground. Scrapping the right side of her face as she hit the ground. The bird flew back up and started to round her again. Aleia scrambled from the ground, but kept her head low. Turnign her head back she saw two of them gunning for her again. Aleia opened her eyes wide.. and then the birds stopped. Seeming to halt in mid-air as their wings pulled them back. Breathing heavily she then knew that they were only protecting something. Shaking her head she pulled the pack against her and gave the birds her back. Footsteps still light she pushed past a few tree limbs and blinked. There was the stream and not far beyond.. the temple.
"Thank god..."
Her lips were dry and she ached for some water to cool her body. The young girl renewed with vigor at the site of the stream practicaly ran over. Yet stopped when something didn't feel right....

Rau had followed her for the better part of a day, surprised by her timidity. She was not a threat by any means, nor was she lost. If he knew the enemy well, this was some sort of test of endurance. In the Yuuzhan Vong culture, pain was the only thing any warrior clung to.
The Ravenoks took a sudden interest in her, no doubt for an afternoon meal. He steadied himself in the tree's and took a deep breath. When he exhaled, the small insect ejected from a foot long straw like device, and sped toward the lead bird, striking it in the abdomen. The poison worked quickly, and the black avian fell from the sky silently. They would not harm her any longer.
Stealthily he lept from the tree, and made his way towards the stream. If she were not careful, she would be dead within moments. Besides, it was time.
He willed his amphistaff to unfurl to its full length, and take the shape of a spear. He walked softly, as the girl drank deeply from the stream. He took steady aim, fearless, and confident, and then with all his strength hurled the weapon toward the weary girl.
It struck just to her left, pinning the wriggling fire eel in the mud. It squirmed, and thrashed, as a gelatin like substance oozed from its wound, catching the water on fire.
He stood stoically, as the creature writhed in its final death throes. They were a dangerous creature, but then again every aspect of the Yuuzhan Vong culture was violent in some manner.
"There are no Gods infidel. Only this existence, but if you do not learn to be more aware of your surroundings, you will not be long of this world. I could have killed you a thousand times during your journey, but I could not let that happen just yet, until I know what and who you are, and whether you are worthy to grace my presence".
He held out his hand as the Amphistaff slithered back to its Master. "If not worthy, all Infidels must perish in pain".

The water was cool and refreshing. It helped relaxed her panging stomach and therefore did not see the danger that was comming forth from either direction. When the eel was killed the girl had pulled back and jumped to her feet. Eyes opening wide as she recongised the Vong she had seen from earlier. Her eyes held some fear but if what he said was true then she was already dead.
"Infidel? What are you talking about? And why are you even here? The War has been over and you act like it isn't.."
She replied to add curage or stupidity. More then likely it was both and if it pissed him off she would know in a matter of moments. The Sun that was waivering still gave off alot of heat. Aleia slid her pack to the ground and took off the outter robe. Her eyes not leaving the Vong's as she did.
Pain.. well he surly fits that mark...
Noting the many scars on his features. Of course to him she was probably the ugly one. Each species having their own likes and dislikes. Pain? Well she had been threw plenty of that. Bititng her lip she took off the long-sleeved. Gratefull that she still had a t-shirt underneath. Taking the light brown shirt she decided to dip it in the stream to dampen it. The way the heat was ranging it would be dried by nightfall as it was. She could feel his gaze on her and Aleia knew he wanted to know why she was here.
"I am a Jedi Padawan.. well.. I am now.. I wasn't 3 days ago. My teacher had me meet him this morning and he gave me this pack and told me I had to go to the temple here and to commune with nature to understand the Force.."
As she spoke she stepped to the side of the stream and started dipping her shirt in it. Part of her back was shown to him and Just below the hem of her shirt he could see part of a scar over an inch thick that went up farther under her tunic.

"The war within never ceases human. For the warrior it is an eternal struggle". She did not shrink back, even though he could feel her fear. Most ran, or begged, but she stood her ground. He was intrigued.
"Jeedai", he spat, feeling the sourness of the word on his lips, "where is your light weapon then? Your kind has embraced technology and become its slave. This force of yours is as heretical and false as the Gods we once served. You walk blindly upon a path that has no meaning. Only the warrior has reason, and strength, and in the end, he alone is worthy to lead".
As she pulled off her overshirt, he watched as her smooth skin gave way to a wicked looking scar. He moved closer, and extended his Amphistaff, letting its fangs rip away the remaining cloth, exposing the old wound more clearly.
"Do you seek to mock me by showing this to me", he demanded, "because if you are setting your own will against mine, you will lose child".
Either she was mocking him, or she was worthy. In the Yuuzhan Vong culture, one did not ask, they challenged. It was not a threat, but an honor he extended to her. Sadly, most humans were fearful of their ways, and it led to many a disagreement. Even almost a hundred and fifty years after the Yuuzhan invasion and ultimate defeat, the galaxy was still fearful of them.
"Answer me girl, or you will feel the sting of my Amphistaff, and then feel no more".

"I don't have a weapon.. I.. I can't yet even move anything with the force or jump, run.. Until I was brought here I was nothing but a run away living day to day for survival."
She answered back truthfully before feeling the Vong's strange weapon tear at her shirt. Aleia pivoted, dropping her shirt into the stream. The shirt started to slowly float away as she grew angered at him.
"No one touches me..your the one who tore at my shirt." Aleia snapped. "WHy would I mock a creature such as yourself. You have your scars.. and I have mine." It was clear she wasn't one to want to talk about that particular wound. In itse;f her shoulder was covered in the inch thick scar. Smaller scars laden around it. Looking like hooks had raked her once smooth skin. The scar then went down to the left of her back. Expanding out to a larger scar that looked as if a creature had been clawing at her flesh.
"I am not a child.." She then launched herself at him, in her right hand she had somewhere in the conversation picked up a jagged stone and slashed at his chest. The Vong only moved back, the tip just barly grazing his chest. She was flexable and slide to the side, grabbed her pack and then took off to run into the temple, dropping the stone as she went into the entrence.
OMG he's going to kill me for that for sure..
Aleia thought, panting as she entered the cool room of the temple. Her green eyes scanned the old ruin entrence quickly. Weeds were pushing up threw the sides were the stone had cracked. The ground was laden with dirt, broken stones and dead insects. Her attention was then caught by an opening leading down to what she thought was another room. Dropping her pack to the ground she reached in and reached for a glow rod. The orange light illumanated her face as she talked to herself.
"He's been following me all day.. I can't stop him now."
She decided, yet herself she was intrested in him. She wasn't sure why but it didn't matter. Not now anyways.
"I need to do what Odon said.."
She whispered again as she picked her stuff up and walked into the darkened room. Her boots tapped lightly on the floor as she took slow breaths. Aleia had at least done one part right.
"At least Im safe in here..."
Was the last thing she said as the young girl walked deeper in the room. Something moved up from behind so quickly that she didn't even see her attacker. A hard shock of pain hit her and then darkness took her over as she hit the ground.

He should have killed the human infidel, honor demanded it. However, he was surprised at her ferocity, given her recent timidity. A Warrior did not look in disdain at his opponents reactions, instead he respected them. Once you held your opponent in low esteem, you most often ended up dead.
She fled into the Temple ruins, a stupid thing to do, but he refused to follow. She was unworthy, and if she chose to embrace fear, just after she displayed bravery, then their meeting was a mistake.
Rau made his way once more into the forest, but stopped just at its perimeter, looking at the ground with sudden interest. There were markings, and signs of a movement. Someone had been watching them. Kneeling, he picked up a Ragnot, a slimy slug that seemed to exude a pheromone that confused the Sentinel Beetles.
His prey had been here, watching him and the girl, and now she most likely was in danger, as it seemed only logical that he had snuck into the Temple in the hopes of ambushing them both in the cover of darkness.
He was at a crossroads. In order to redeem his name, he must find and kill this rogue Yuuzhan Vong. If he did not, he would be forced to live out the remainder of his life in shame and exile. Besides, the girl had been brave, albeit briefly.
She did not deserve to die this way. Making up his mind, Rau Dilong, son of the sons of Shimmra Jummane, turned and walked purposely toward the old ruin, his Amphistaff elonged and ready to strike its opponent.
He would save the girl if he could, but his objective was the other warrior. There was no other way. If she was meant to die, then it would be so.

Pain woke her. Stabbing pain that struck her everywhere as she opened her eyes. Body shaking as she grunted, biting her lip as she tried to free her arms. Something was holding as she took in painfilled breaths and tried to see who had taken here. Hell she couldn't explain the pain in words to begin with. Only that she was bound to somethign that looked like a rack. Again she struggled and more pain screamed threw her.
"Keep Struggeling Infidel... The more you do the more pain you will have. Either way you will die.."
Came a strange voice. Instantly she froze, and looked out into the darkness. There was light but not where she could see her captor. Yet she knew.. she knew what it was that held her.
"Your a Vong..."
No reply came back for a moment. ALeia closed her eys and let out a scream as another wave of pain came threw. Yet there was something about it that also made her feel... alive.I don't think Master Odon knew about this.. She wondered if he ever would.. if she lived.
"Where.. are.. we?" She managed threw. SHe opened her eyes and could hear shifting sounds of the creature moving in the darkness.
"Far under the ground.."
