Dunno if anyone else noticed this (I didn't see a thread about this, though I might have missed it), but when Palpatine fights with Mace Windu, he's using Anakin's saber hilt.
If you watch it frame by frame, you can see that it is too long to be Sidious' saber, and that there are grips on the end, like Anakin's Episode II and III sabers. Later, when they're fighting in Palpatine's office, you can see the "rabbit ears" from Anakin's saber.
I think the saber they made for Sidious just wasn't big enough for McDiarmid to wield so they had him use Hayden's instead.

From what I've heard the scene originally called for Anakin to arrive earlier, and for Palpatine to use his saber. Just another case of Lucas paying no attention to detail in final editing. Whoever works as continuity assistant on the movies wants firing...

............'course Lucas also likes to leave such goodies for us "nuts" to find doesn't he?

............'course Lucas also likes to leave such goodies for us "nuts" to find doesn't he? You think? Things like the reference to Master Vos, or the Wookie with the Tarzan yell, those I can accept as things for us to find, but things like the saber switches are just poor attention to detail which, as I've said before, I couldn't've gotten away with as a film student, so it annoys me to see a big screen director making them. [Edit to add quote for clarity]

Well I have seen it too.. But if you think about it how many people besides us "nuts" actually notice the samllest things? And Like mentioned I think He left some thngs for us to just find. it wouldnt suprise me if Lucas himself reads what we put on this site and finds it amusing

I finally got round to watching an official RotS DVD and listened to the commentary... Lucas said that when Obi-Wan and Anakin are fighting at the end, the reason Obi-Wan has hold of Anakin's saber, is that another part of the fight (which wasn't included) had Obi-Wan with both sabers. To me, having listened to how they did things like adding Christopher Lee and Ian McDermid's heads onto stunt fighters, or 'breaking' Anakin's wrist so he moved the data pad up, only reinforced how little attention to actual detail Lucas must actually have, because if they can superimpose other actor's faces or a mechanical arm over a bluescreen glove, it should not be hard to do a digital cover to correct something like someone holding the wrong saber (in a final edit) and mistakes like that should not be allowed to make a final big screen release...

And who but us nuts would see it, know it or care? I really never thought that Ian M or Chris L were actually doing most of the stunts, CL is in his 80's and IM is older than I am, in any case insurance companies usually will try to prevent them doing their own in case of injuries which can cost them millions of bucks in delays ect.

And who but us nuts would see it, know it or care? Any decent director who reviews his rushes properly I really never thought that Ian M or Chris L were actually doing most of the stunts, CL is in his 80's and IM is older than I am, in any case insurance companies usually will try to prevent them doing their own in case of injuries which can cost them millions of bucks in delays ect. That didn't really bother me at all, my beef was if they could take the trouble to paste someone's face digitally, it's not any harder to paste a correct lightsaber into place
