Just re-watching RotS, and the line suddenly grabbed me... After Obi-Wan escapes in Grievous' fighter, Anakin returns to Padme's apartment, and there are these interesting lines of dialogue... R2-D2 *Frantic whistles and chirps!!!1* C-3PO "Hush! Not so loud!"
What did Artoo say that 3PO tried to silence? Did he say "Annie's flipped his lid and slaughtered everyone in the Jedi Temple?" I read that in one of the NJO novels, Artoo shows Luke a holorecording of Anakin killing Padme on Mustafar, could it be that he knew what Anakin had done all along and just couldn't tell anyone?

R2-D2 should write a book, seeing as he's the one character that would remember everything.
Into the Empire and Back, a Droid's Tale...

I think he definitely has a few good tales to tell, that is when C-3PO isn't trying to keep him down

In the novel of ROTS it says:
C-3PO: "Artoo, are you all right? What is going on?" The astromech squeaked and beeped; C-3PO's autotranslator interpreted: NOBODY TELLS ME ANYTHING. "Of course not. You don't keep up your end of the conversation." A whirring squeal: SOMETHING'S WRONG. THE FACTORS DON'T BALANCE.
"You can't possibly be more confused than I am." YOU'RE RIGHT. NOBODY CAN BE MORE CONFUSED THAN YOU ARE.
"Oh, very funny. Hush now-what was that? I think -he's saying someting about a rebellion-that the Jedi have tried to overthrow the republic! And-oh, my goodness. Mace Windu has tried to assassinate Chancellor Palpatine! Can he be serious?" I DON'T KNOW. ANAKIN DOESN'T TALK TO ME ANYMORE.
"How can Master Windu be an assassin? He has such inpeccable manners." LIKE I TOLD YOU: THE FACTORS DON'T ADD UP.
"I've been hearing the most awful rumors-they're saying the government is going to banish us-banish droids, can you imagine?" DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR.
"Shh. Not so loud!" I'M ONLY SAYING THAT WE DON'T KNOW THE TRUTH.
"Of course we don't." C-3PO sighed. " And we likely never will."

And R2-D2 does know alot about the whole story, actually he is the only one who knows almost everything. George Lucas remarks to Rob Coleman that the story of Star Wars is actually recounted by R2-D2 to the Keeper of the Whills, one hundred years after Return of the Jedi. Journal of the Whills is what Lucas titled his first outline of Star Wars back in 1972.
*This part is in the Book: The Making of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith on page 72.*
Hope this helps.

Well, that's certainly more than in the movie scene, but it pretty much covers what I suspected Artoo was saying... Seems like I'm beginning to be able to understand him ;D

In the new "Dark Nest" trilogy artoo is discovered to have a partitioned area of his memory buffers that contains data that was never wiped or shared. He won't show Luke ny of it because he fears it will cause him "harm". Some of it is revealed and it was what Tanzan referred to......part of a holo from Mustafar...and some others as well........

Artoo has some of the best lines in the saga. He's an everyman hero, the little engine who could. When Anakin is about to assassinate the Separatists and gestures for Artoo to stay with the ship, it's clear that the droid knows that something is wrong and he's powerless to stop his master. Artoo has always been like a child with an old soul, and that scene reminded me of child who watches an alcoholic parent do bad things.
My favorite Artoo line? "I'm serving drinks." I think Obi-Wan rubbed off on him. If the line was in English, I imagine it being delivered exactly like Obi-Wan's reply to Anakin in the night club. "Where are you going?" "To get a drink!" The utmost cool.
