I had to wait 28 years to see that big battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin and I was quite happy with it. Better than I could have expected, especially way back in 1977 when Lucas told everybody that Obi-Wan put Vader into that suit after he "fell into a volcano". It was a pretty thin backstory but I'm quite satisfied with how it was filled out.
There is an awful lot flashy saber twirling going on. It seemed to me that they both preferred attacks that would cut off a limb over killing. At least at first. They got a lot more serious as the fight went on.
Towards the end, it really looked like Obi-Wan was getting tired, but Anakin was still going strong. But Obi-Wan always seemed to be more aware of his surroundings than Anakin, who kept all of his attention on just the fight. That's how Obi-Wan won. Even though he was fighting more defensively, he took advantage of opportunities around him that would work for him. Anakin just charged in with brute Force (pun intended). He was much too overconfident.

Yeah, it is a pretty flashy fight, but very intense as well. I'm still unsure of which fight I like better though, Obi Wan and Anakin's duel, or the Duel of the Fates against Darth Maul, but I guess they are different things.

You can't get away from Darth Maul's acrobatics in TPM; he's just so cool. And that fight was in mostly fought in bright lighting that makes the lightsabers much less distracting. The strength in that fight is more directly from the actors. It's a serious Jedi/Sith fight.
The ROTS fight has shorter cuts and is in a darker area, so the lightsaber flash blurs the action. The actors aren't as prominent even though they're fighting full speed. But it is such a cool location and you can't get around the grudge between the combatants. The strength in that fight is the location and the back story between the characters. It's personal.

Well, they say on the DVD that Ewan and Hayden practiced for months working on it. It was a GREAT fight. And Lucas asked Hayden to 'bulk up' for the movie. I assume that was to make him look more plausible as the future Darth Vader.
Vader (and he was Darth Vader by then even if Obi-Wan still called him Anakin) really would have killed Obi-Wan if it had kept going on. He was always on the offensive; the dark side really did give him a lot of power and he was wearing Obi-Wan out. But again, Obi-Wan's awareness of the surroundings was just better than Vader's and he took advantage of it; that's how he won.
There's hardly any comparison between the ROTS fight and their final confrontation on the Death Star. Vader had all mechanical limbs and Obi-Wan had aged a lot and he was just stalling for time anyway.

at least your guy won.... Yeah, but it was over too quickly... another ten minutes of it would have been nice! Some video clips I've seen show them fist fighting a bit more than they do in the final cut.

I would have loved more of the fighting scens as well. Always it seems that the good fights don't seem to last.

I tend to think that the fight was just the right length. One can easily over-do a fight scene. And I love the way it cut between Obi-Wan/Anakin and Sidious/Yoda. I expected the Obi-Wan/Anakin fight in the movie, but not the other one. But it was essential to the story. It was really sad to see Yoda lose like that and really, Sidius couldn't possibly have been more evil!
Obi-Wan won, but I wonder if it was more cruel of him to let Anakin burn and not kill him outright. He obviously wrongly assumed that Anakin would die (and metaphorically he did). He did underestimate the power of the dark side of the Force there. That's really what I think kept him alive through all that and what really killed Padme.

Well from what I was told Anakin was unarmed at that point and obi-wan left it to the will of the force. it was realy against the code to kill an unarmed opponent and Obi-wan thought he was going to die there anyhow.

Right. He left it to the will of the Force. And according to the book, Obi-Wan led Anakin out over the lava expecting that they would both perish.

the final fight was awsome. obi wan uses the knowledge of the force the way jedi are intended to. utilizing his surroundings ( as the force surrounds us). anikan tho uses brute strenght and wills the force to do his bidding. due to his midicolorian counts being over 20 thousand (27500) or so he can utilize the force in many ways even mawster yoda can not. but in the end it was an awsome fight sceene.

I loved that fight it realy brought the fight between vader and ben full circle. We knew of the fight between ben and vader but not realy what brought it to that point now we know. I think Hayden done a beautiful job showing the turn from good to bad it came out perfect. Ewan was perfect he even looked like a young Alec(Obi-wan)G. he brought new life to the Obi-wan character.IT WAS GREAT
