According to Lucas, Vader did disappear and Luke burned only his armor in effigy. It just happened "off camera".
Who wants to bet we'll now see Vader disappearing in the OT DVD?

I never thought about Boba killing him. That's a good one. I think Mace is going to get "fried" by the Emperor (i.e. Force Lightning)

What some might consider spoiler (though my friend who is spoiler free let me tell him and then said it wasn't a spoiler....)
During his talk at ComiCon, Steve Sansweet said of Mace (and I quote as I wrote it down) highlight to read "Mace is the pivotal point that starts to turn this lad" (meaning Anakin). Hmmmmm.
I've heard Samuel L. in an interview say Mace dies in a battle scene.

I'm not sure about this, but wasn't Qui Gon expecting his death? I mean, he gets run through, then has a little talk with Obi Wan. He must understand during that talk he wouldn't last, he even says he will die really. So would there be some hidden variable here? And what happened to Jar Jar? I was hoping he was going to be a jedi! After all he killed all those robots. I am just hoping he makes an appearance in Episode III

I've seen a picture of Mace during the battle... He seems pretty taken aback at the sheer power of something. Use of the force? A warrior's strength? Oh and he's on his back... clearly being beaten. I like Master Windu as well, unfortunately as we know, he had to die. -Xeco Freemoon.

Mace is cool. On the TV series (again) he owned loads of droids by using the force only, then destroyed a machine which hovers and smashes anything under it with a huge crusher. And to Qui Gon, maybe the expression was there because the lightsabre hurt? Who knows?
