Sounds cool...
(From Starwars.com -- go there to see the cover shot-- could that be Ben Skywalker?)
A new era in Star Wars literature is set to launch next year with a brand-new multi-book story starring Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia as well as Jacen, Jaina, Ben and the other heroes of The New Jedi Order. First announced at Celebration III, the Legacy of the Force series will span nine books in a sweeping, multi-author story arc that captures the epic scope and gripping space opera feel of the Star Wars saga. This is the era of Luke Skywalker's legacy: the Jedi Master has unified the order into a cohesive group of powerful Jedi Knights. But as this new era begins, planetary interests threaten to disrupt this time of relative peace, and Luke is plagued with visions of an approaching darkness. Evil is rising again -- out of the best intentions -- and it looks as if the legacy of the Skywalkers may come full circle.
Here's an early look at the cover of the first book in the series, Betrayal by Aaron Allston. The cover is still undergoing slight revisions, but here is the latest iteration by Jason Felix.
This first book in the series will be hardcover, but the series itself will be a mix of three hardcovers and six mass-market paperbacks. In addition to Allston, the series will feature authors Karen Traviss and Troy Denning.
Star Wars: Legacy of the Force: Betrayal is scheduled for release on May 30, 2006 from Del Rey Books. Keep checking starwars.com for more information and other first looks regarding this momentous new series.

You said 3 hardcovers & 6 paperbacks. Do you think the 3 hardcovers will come in paperback eventually because I don't buy hardcovers.

I think all hardcovers come in paperback eventually. You many have to wait a year to get the paperback but it's nearly a sure thing that there will be a paper edition.
The only exception I've seen is for the Scholastic Jedi books. I've never seen their hardcovers in paperback versions, but they're young adult books with more limited print runs.
