I think the battle was the trial, but it might have been a different trial if the Clone wars never happened, it seems to me that the duel with D Maul was Obi Wan's final trial, but if you read the MedTech duo, it seems the trial is to reach the point where you know that you are no longer a Padawan. Then the masters make it official. As for quality of training, I think it wouldn't really make to much of a difference, Qui Gon's 1st apprentice fell to the darkside, tho was not really a Sith, and then he trained Obi Wan, so I think it might just have been meant to be, to return the balence, not to mention, a plot for the story. But, I really miss Qui Gon! At times Obi Wan is clueless about how to deal with Anakin ("My young appentice" how many times in ep.II) I'm sure that didn't help.

Just got it today and have started to read it. Seems pretty good. I put the Labyrinth of Evil on layaway so that it will be ready as soon as I am done reading Jedi Trial. Cant wait to get through both. Well back to reading. ;D

Finished it today, must say not to impressed with the book. It took me a while to finish because I have been busy the last few weeks but I was a little disapointed when it ended. There was no trial and there was like 2 pages saying ok we will make him a knight and that is it. The Clone Wars cartoon told more about him becoming a knight than the book titled "Jedi Trial".
Over all the book was ok, it let you see the war and other events from the eyes of other people not just the Jedi. Had some good scenes but was just looking foward to more about Anakin's trail.
