I just washed mine yesterday (the raw silk)...according to the instructions that Thaisilks included...you just wash it with a mild detergent in warm water....use the gentle cycle...and don't dry it..... mine came out fine...

The cream raw2 silk won't leach color. I wash mine in cold water with WOolite on the gentle cycle. toss in dryer just long enough t get wrinkles out then air dry haninging up.
The coolored silks like the Brown or dark green. They can leah color. It's best to do them with fabric the SAME color. Browns with browns. dark greens with dark green, etc If you can't do them separatly or a light peice may be turned another shade.:-D It is VERY light weight, breathes well, is fogiving withe stains and doesn't tear on the fabric, it will tear on the seams.
I have osenburge as my inner tunic as well, That wazshes nicely.

Primrodo's question seemed to be whether there is a way to MAKE the color fade a bit.
Actually, silk is supposed to hold dye quite well. At least, according to Dharma Trading. So I'm not you can get the color to fade, unless you use products designed to do so.

ooooopsss always getting ahead of myself......and didn't process the whole question.... Thaisilks sent a whole sheet of info on silks of all varieties....care, fading, characteristics, etc.... so if I were you Primodo....I would send an e-mail to either Thaisilks or to Dharma Trading with the specifics of your fabric.....they would probably give you a difinitive answer....

Thanks for all the replies well since I decided that the whole conversion thing plus shipping and conversion, would be a hassle I decided to get it here from a local shop. Its still raw silk, same texture etc that saberbelt has with his raw silk tunics...feels pretty well the same, save his is much softer. I hand washed a small swatch, and it feels great, just I wouldn't mind it a tad lighter What did your Thai Silk stuff say?

Well I got my Raw Silk....any tips washing it? I've never done it before And anyway to leech the colour a bit? I AM doing the Onsaberg as inner tunic Finally got around to reading the entire care sheet.... Looks like only the bright and bold colors will fade with washing.......it doesn't say much about the natural colors....and it does say that chlorine bleach will yellow the fabric....

I like it! What is it? ....and what is the brown material it is laying on? Boy.....it really is hard to determine a lot about fabric from photos...I know it is a problem for me..... I also noticed that even after washing the raw silk...it still has a funky smell to it.....can't imagine what it would smell like if a person was really sweating up a storm...

HAHA, The brown material is Raw Silk, its the opinion I was after The white swatch is Osnaburg. For now that is my inner/outer tunic combo Brown outer. I may dye the Osnaburg to make it contrast a bit more to the outer tunic and less anakin looking. And yeah teh silk smells odd....almost a leather like smell.

Ahhh.....Osnaberg.... ;D I knew it looked familiar...and I know why I like it...
it you want to dye it...try a tea stain...just boil a bunch of tea bags....let it cool a tad... ....it should be a nice natural looking color... won't be too heavy..... try a small swatch and test it first.....

Nova's saying the same thing I did. I own two over tunics made from the stuff.
Try washing in wamr water to force a fade. Mine was done like that on accident and the forrest green blead on my pale green tunic.
If that doesn't work try hot. But use a small peice first to test for shrinkage.

I like the combo, it looks good together, the brown should fade some with washing. I don't use chlorine bleach unless I absolutly must, not only will it yellow the fabric, it also weakens it. Try white vinegar in place of bleach. Schph, try using the white vinegar in your rinse water, it might remove the odor you spoke of, which isn't the fabric's natural smell, but might be from the shipping container or from where they stored it.
